2023.05.29 21:07 FerretsWithHats To complain or not complain

Some friends and I went on an overnight stay and booked an AriBnB. The house was in an older neighborhood, but it was less than 10min from the venue we were visiting. Cost of the house was $150 with a $200 cleaning fee, so $350 total. Kinda pricey, but it fit all 6 of us comfortably. During the stay, we noticed several issues...
*Very musty smell permeating the whole house *Busted door in one of the rooms *Shoddy repair work to fix age-related issues *Very shoddy stucco work in the bathroom, possibly to cover water damage.
It was just overall a poorly maintained property. Now, the place WAS clean. Clean sheets, clean towels, yard was maintained, host nice. I'm just wondering if I'm being nit-picky here, or if this is something other people would complain about?
Would appreciate the feedback before posting a review!

2023.05.29 20:39 tpanevino Houston Citizenship by Descent Appointment Recap (LOOOONG)

I recently completed my Citizenship by Descent (jure sanguinis) appointment at my local Italian Conuslate's office in Houston, Texas. Below is my write-up that outlines my experience. Hopefully, this is helpful for those currently working through the process. Best of luck to you all! ✨
Background
In July of last year, my father was diagnosed with cancer. While the news was both unexpected and frightening, my dad’s diagnosis ignited a latent desire to learn more about who he was and the ancestors that came before him. In the weeks and months following his diagnosis, I tried to connect as often as possible with my dad – I asked questions about his childhood. I asked him to tell me about his parents and grandparents. I didn’t want to leave any stone unturned.
One late summer day last year, as my dad was preparing for another round of chemotherapy, he mentioned that his grandfather, Vincenzo, had immigrated from Italy to the United States. He didn’t know much about his late grandfather. He had died before my dad was born. I spent the following days deep in the far corners of Ancestry.com combing through records in search of everything Vincenzo Panevino. It turns out my dad was right about his grandfather ¬– Vincenzo Luigi Antonio Panevino had indeed crossed the Atlantic Ocean on a one-way ticket to New York City at the ripe age of 30. Each record I uncovered unlocked even more information on my great-grandfather – he was born in 1859 in Aliano, Italy (a small, rural town that sits right near the arch of the boot). His birth came nearly two years before Italy’s unification in 1861. It was during my research on my great-grandfather that I stumbled upon the process of jure sanguinis. The more I learned about the process, the more it felt like the next logical step on my journey into the past. My dad agreed. And with that, I was off to the races on a vital record collection spree!
Appointment Recap
In March of this year, I was able to secure an appointment for this past Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This came after a previous appointment I had secured for this past January was randomly canceled by the Houston Consulate without an option to reschedule. The process of obtaining this second appointment most definitely aged me!
The night before my appointment, my husband and I drove into town. Thankfully, my in-laws live in the greater-Houston area, so we were able to spend the night at their house before driving to the consulate the following day.
The morning of my appointment, my husband and I arrived at the consulate a bit early. Parking was seamless; the cost is only a few bucks an hour and the lot is located within the same building as the consulate. With some extra time to spare, we decided to stop by nearby Fiction Coffee (literally a stone’s throw away from the lobby of the building that houses the consulate). Their coffee and breakfast tacos were amazing! I left my husband there and made my way up to the 19th floor ready to officially kick things off.
I arrived at the entrance of the consulate and pressed the red button adjacent to the doors; a voice blared out asking what I was there for. I informed the person on the other end that I was there for my citizenship appointment, and I was quickly buzzed in. Once inside, an Italian officer instructed me to place my belongings onto a conveyor belt for a security scan. Next, I was directed towards a window to a consular official who again asked the reason for my visit and for my name. After he jotted down some notes, I was let into a small waiting room and told to make my way to window number 3. While I waited for my appointment to begin, I glanced around the room. The windowless space was quite small, filled with only a handful of red chairs and multiple copies of Italics Magazine.
A woman arrived behind the glass partition and introduced herself as Margherita. I told her that I had heard so much about her through the amazing Dual U.S.-Italian Citizenship Facebook group. She let out a genuine smile and told me how thankful she was that such a group exists to help people complete this process (join if you haven't already!). After a few minutes of small talk, Margherita and I got right to work!
I began by handing over my driver’s license and passport as well as photocopies of each. Next up, was a utility bill with my name and address on it. Finally, Margherita asked me to sign all forms in front of her (in my case, that was Forms 1, 2, 4, and the Registry Form). With these initial documents out of the way, Margherita took a moment to scan my forms and acknowledged that it appeared as though I was eligible to move forward based on the forms I handed over. Margherita propped up Form 1 on a clipboard and then pulled out a secondary form that she would use to annotate each document I submitted.
We began with my great-grandfather, Vincenzo. I submitted a printout of his Italian birth certificate from PEC which was accepted. Additionally, I also had printouts of his original Italian birth record and birth index (both of which I found on Antenati) which Margherita also accepted. Thankfully, because I had read other member recaps for the Houston Consulate, I made sure to bring a certified copy of the ship record/manifest that documented my grandfather’s arrival into New York City in 1889. Margherita was appreciative that I had this and mentioned that manifest records were important to her when she was reviewing cases. Just to be safe, I highly recommend ordering this record via NARA if you’re within Houston’s consular jurisdiction. Next up, I handed over my great-grandfather’s marriage, census, non-naturalization records (USCIS, NARA, county records), and death records without issue. Because my great-grandfather never naturalized, Margherita asked if I had his A-File (Alien File) Card as further evidence of his non-naturalization. I had not found such a card during my research process. Margherita stood up and pulled out a photocopy of what the A-File Card looked like from her filing cabinet. I quickly grabbed my cell phone and searched for more info. On NARA’s website, I discovered that Alien Registration Numbers and A-File’s were not first issued until just after my great-grandfather died in 1940. Because of this, he likely was never issued an Alien Registration Number or an A-File. I pressed my phone up to the glass to show Margherita the National Archives website. She scanned the web page I presented to her and appeared to agree that I would be unable to locate this record. I was not assigned homework to collect this. Onward we went!
Although the Houston Consulate’s website states that non-line documents are optional, I made sure to bring them just in case! I had gathered certified copies of all non-line documents with translations. Margherita made a point to explicitly call out that translations and apostilles were not necessary as non-line documents were only used by the consulate staff to corroborate any information on your in-line family members. Nonetheless, she accepted everything I gave her. Similar to my great-grandfather, my great-grandmother also immigrated from Italy and Margherita was also appreciative that I had secured her ship manifest/arrival record as well.
We continued down the line, sliding through the window apostilled and translated birth/marriage/divorce/death documents for all in-line relatives and basic copies with translations for non-line relatives. When we got to my father’s documents, Margherita paused and let out a notable sigh. She stammered, “Your father, he is no longer with us, no?” I nodded. Two months prior to my appointment, my father’s battle with cancer abruptly ended. As I worked to process the loss of my dad, I continued on with this process. In many ways, I found this journey to be a somewhat cathartic way to work through my pain. I received my father’s apostilled death certificate exactly one week before my appointment. It was the final document needed to complete my application. Margherita put down her pen and we spoke at length about my dad. She didn’t seem to mind our appointment running a bit longer. She was genuine and compassionate. We are so fortunate to have her as our consular official.
As my appointment drew to a close, Margherita slid the document she had been using to notate every document I submitted back to me. She asked me to review her notes for accuracy while she went to the back of the office to officially submit my application with my $321.70 USPS money order. She returned with a photocopy of my Form 1 document which now had my file number written at the top. She informed me that I had no homework as of right now and mentioned that she would contact me via email if any additional documentation was needed. She also let me know that although the consulate had 24 months to process my application, she believes the process would likely wrap up much sooner. Margherita even told me that whenever she has moments of free time, it’s not uncommon for her to pull out an “easy” application (i.e. applicants who aren’t married, have no kids, or those with little to no homework) to try to complete it. Fingers crossed that means we’ll see even more approvals out of this consulate this year!
I thanked Margherita extensively as my appointment came to a close. We waved goodbye through the glass and Margherita disappeared into the office behind her. And just like that, this phase of my journey was complete. I walked out of the office homework-free and one step closer to my goal of dual citizenship. My husband and I celebrated afterward with an amazing lunch at North Italia just up the block. I was elated!
Closing Thoughts/Takeaways
The last time I visited my dad in the hospital, I shared all the details I had dug up on ancestors I’d only seen in a handful of pictures. We pieced together their lives. In some sense, they were all finally real to me. To us. On Thursday, as I walked out of the Italian Consulate, I closed out an unexpected chapter in my life. Buried in the seemingly mundane vital records I had just turned over was a bridge back to little ol’ Aliano, Italy, and a connection to my great-grandfather, my grandfather, and my dad. It’s through this very process that, in some small way, I get to keep them alive.
Grazie mille to everyone who helped me along the way to unlock the past and future when I needed it most. I could never thank you enough! Now, off to celebrate with some gelato! 🇮🇹✨

2023.05.29 19:38 FinallyAwake2020 Diet is everything! Changes that are helping my GI issues

Hi all,
I'm on day 12 and have been having a rough time GI-wise but am finding some things that are helping me. I've lost like 10 pounds probably from pooping so much, it's crazy! But here's what's helping things mellow out. I just started eating more probiotics, and it's really helping already. And a note about fiber: I get it, we don't need to be pooping any more than we already are, but fiber is really helpful for adding bulk to your stool and keeping you from getting too bad of diarrhea which can be very dehydrating.
Meds/supplements: - Glycopyrrolate (Robinul) as needed. I had it prescribed for IBS when I'm getting cramping/abdominal pains/diarrhea/etc. It has definitely helped with WDs, but I'm trying to use it sparingly because I think my body really does need to flush out the toxins that have been building up. This and Imodium (only when absolutely needed) are helping me go out and do things. I've barely seen anyone mention Robinul here, but it's made a big difference for me --- I wait till I absolutely need it then take it. It could be worth asking a doctor about trying this or something similar. - Citrucel. This is a fiber supplement known to be better for IBS, less likely to cause pain or gas. Use it a few hours apart from any meds because fiber supplements can sometimes interfere with other meds (nothing dangerous to my knowledge, they can just help flush the other meds along too which you don't want!). Start low and build your way up to see how your body reacts to it. - A probiotic I just got from the grocery store (which I actually have to store in the fridge) - Magnesium. Be careful you're not taking too much of the forms of magnesium that can have strong laxative effects... you're probably pooping enough as is, lol.
Drinks: - Sports drink packets or liquid IV hydration multipliers are helpful for preventing dehydration if you're having a lot of loose stool. (And bananas are great for potassium!) - Kombucha is a fermented probiotic drink. Give it a try to see how it sits with you. It's not for everyone, especially since it does have some natural alcohol (not enough to get drunk, but enough that pregnant women should avoid it). - Ginger ale or some kind of fizzy drink like La Croix can be helpful for an upset stomach, for some folks. As a Michigander, I am doing that thing we always do, which is dealing with sickness by drinking some delicious Vernor's lol. #PureMichigan
Foods: - Raw cacao is amazing for my energy/cognition, and I have fermented raw cacao nibs along with the raw cacao powder. Got them on Amazon. - Oats oats oats! Bland and great for regularity. - Chia seeds. You can grind them and put them in anything. Superfood, excellent source of fiber. Way cheaper online or through Walmart than at a health foods store. - High fiber veggies eaten gradually throughout the day, more at night. If you're having GI issues, too much carrots or dark greens at once can mess you up. But eating them gradually throughout the day can help you be regular. You can also eat more cooked vegetables. I eat more of foods like this at night so if I do have pains, it's while I'm sleeping (just not too much bc I don't wanna wake myself up --- find what works for you). - Probiotic/fermented foods: Activia yogurt, tefir, sauerkraut, pickled gerkins, etc. From what I've read, it looks like kratom addiction can diminish your gut microbiome, so I'm trying to build that microbiome back up. Just add them gradually to your diet because doing too much too quickly can cause issues for some folks. I have lactose intolerance, but dairy products with probiotics often work even if you have lactose intolerance (you can also always add some LactAid for extra help). If you have IBS or other GI sensitivities, look up "low FODMAP fermented probiotic foods." Some foods are low FODMAP until they're fermented, so it's unpredictable. For example, sauerkraut is higher FODMAP, so I avoid eating too much of it at once --- but even a tiny bit can help replenish your microbiome. You can get some fermented foods even at a regular grocery store now or even on Amazon, but you'll have even more options at a health food store.
Here's an overnight oats recipe I tried and liked, for a series of healthy breakfasts that are great for your gut and brain! Just combine the following in this order, put in a sealed container, and leave in fridge overnight. Overnight oats can usually last about a week, but you can always freeze them for later. - 1 cup almond milk (or regular milk --- just something to go with the kefir so you're not overloading with too much of a new probiotic food) - 1 cup kefir (a probiotic somewhere between yogurt and milk) - 1/8 tsp stevia extract (may depend on how strong your extract is) - 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder - 2 teaspoons ground chia seeds - 2 teaspoons ground flax seeds - 1 cup oats - 2 cups blueberries (frozen works fine and are cheaper) - Raw fermented cacao nibs to taste
Aside from this, I recommend eating some bland foods like rice. I hate avoiding spicy food right now, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Good luck y'all! Remember, withdrawals suck, but the only way out is through. If you're going through all of his now, just think what the kratom is doing to you long-term. My doctor told me some people get so hooked on opioids that they are never free of the extreme constipation...you don't want that to be on you! I am reminding myself this is part of the process, and this is my body detoxifying and healing. You've got this!

2023.05.29 16:36 jessicaj__ Ochem section

Ochem section
Are the questions for the Ochem section on the OAT given as a condensed structural formula? Or do they provide the skeletal structural formula?
I just took the Kaplan full practice test #1 to gauge where I'm at (haven't really started studying yet) and scored 230 because most of the questions are in condensed structural form, but I am used to the skeletal structural formula. For example, the question below I got wrong when taking the practice exam because I didn't draw it out in skeletal form due to lack of time. When reviewing the problem and drawing it out, I easily drew out the correct product. But to convert the reactant into skeletal form, draw out the reaction, predict the product, and then convert my answer back to the structural form takes a long time, which I don't have.
https://preview.redd.it/8hr6z2nf2v2b1.jpg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=917379ac8d9c738135978d3d6e48d8512ca963b2

I also took the ADA 2006 test and a Bootcamp test and scored 330 for both on Ochem section (they had the questions in skeletal structure). I just want to know if I should start practicing with the condensed structural formula style since that clearly affects my score.
Thanks!

2023.05.29 15:47 Sea_Pea6230 Delicious healthy- ish dessert?

Chocolate- mango overnight oats
Hello! I've been trying a few healthier desserts..This one absolutely hits the spot! By no means have I developed this recipe, but i love it so I felt like sharing! It's around 200 calories! I absolutely love chocolate and mangoes so this dessert is a hit for me. It doesn't have to be a dessert though, it's a great breakfast as well! It isn't exactly the healthiest as it contains quite a bit of carbs and little protein, but you can always fix that with a bit of protein powder!
Ingredients: ¼ cup instant oats (can use any variety of oats), 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons milk (i used cow milk), Sweetener of choice, Mango pieces, Water as needed, A pinch of salt.
Method: Combine the all the ingredients. I like to add a little milk first for flavour and then water to save up on calories. But by all means, you can replace the water with milk! You can also replace the cow milk and water with plant milk, which will decrease the overall calorie count as well. Place the bowl in the refrigerator overnight. Add around a slice of mango (chopped) before consuming. It tastes absolutely heavenly when chilled. Mangoes go soooo well with the chocolate!
(You can also add a pinch of instant coffee to enhance the taste of chocolate. I didn't have any on hand so i didn't)
Macros: Calories : 209 kcal, Carbs : 35 g, Protein: 7.7 g, Fat : 4.6 g, Fibre : 6.9 g,
Try this once and lmk if you liked it!

2023.05.29 11:41 HereNowHappy Akuru as a tragic character

It's time for another character examination. Today's subject: Akuru Akutsu
Let's start by starting the obvious, he's the tsukkomi to Yoshiko's boke
When they were 5 years old, A-kun thought that Yoshiko was a weirdo and didn't want to play with her. He was already quite studious and wanted to prepare for his future (chapter 67)
Despite her oblivious nature, Yoshiko has harassed and forced herself onto him. And it was even worse during their childhood because she was stronger than him. He has been driven to the brink of insanity and can barely contain his frustration, hench all the compilations of him punching her
He had literal nightmares about getting married to Yoshiko and having stupid children (chapter 97.5)
That's already tragic in itself, but it gets worst when you realize ...before the events of the series, Yoshiko was his only friend
Relationship with Family
As early as chapter 2, we learn that A-kun's parents are always busy with work. We only ever see his mom in a flashback
It's possible that their career-driven mindsets have influenced A-kun. His younger sister, Ruri is the same way, except she is more willing to spent time with friends and have fun
I'll elaborate more on Ruri if I make a thread about her, just know that she has some sort of disability. Whereas Yoshiko is capable if she's motivated, Ruri needs to see a specialist
A-kun feels bad for Ruri and promises to be there for her. At the same time, he doesn't believe she can change. His blunt comments are the reason why Ruri hates him. She hates Yoshiko too for embracing her status as an "idiot". Compared to the other two, Ruri loves Sayaka for encouraging her to get better (chapter 10)
To his credit, A-kun has owned up to his lack of faith in Ruri (chapter 54). Since then, he's reviewed her assignments and come up with strategies to help her (chapter 108)
Relationship with Classmates
A-kun claims that he doesn't feel lonely and his main focus is studying. Especially since everyone around him is strange and obsessive
During summer vacation and the school trip, A-kun didn't plan on doing anything. He thinks doing something for fun is a waste of time. That being said, it's revealed that he doesn't actually have a goal in mind (chapter 126). The only exception he makes is when Yoshiko is out of town, two or three times per year (chapter 48)
His violent tendencies and short-fuse have turned him into an outcast, on the same level as Yoshiko. He was so scary that Sayaka ran away from him and cried during their initial encounters. When A-kun went to the movie theater with Ruri, he almost hit her for getting too excited – and it reminded him of Yoshiko (chapter 13)
Ryuuichi, the street delinquent, wanted to study with A-kun. As expected, A-kun turned him down, stating that it served him no purpose. Furthermore, he accused Ryuuichi of trying to mooch answers off him (chapter 40)
Ryuuichi thought he could befriend A-kun by copying his routine and ended up getting a perfect score on their mid-terms. Instead, it caused A-kun to see Ryuuichi as an enemy. Because while he thinks idiots are trash, he also hates people who exceed his grades (chapter 105)
Akane is A-kun's polar opposite. She wants to hang out with her peers and create youthful memories. Akane isn't a hard worker, so A-kun believes she doesn't deserve to have fun. Likewise, she hates him for sabotaging the summer festival just to teach Yoshiko a lesson (chapter 62). When the class is forced into groups of six, he takes perverse joy in the fact that Yoshiko is going to ruin the trip for Akane (chapter 119). Ironically, the disciplinary president likes him for his apparent sadism (chapter 125)
In perhaps the most epic moment in the series, Sayaka tells A-kun that he's weird for being prejudiced, stubborn, and not even trying to make friends. Sayaka goes as far to claim his attitude is what drew Yoshiko to him in the first place. And if he won't be friends with people for their odd behavior, including her, then he'll have to deal with Yoshiko by himself. This caused A-kun to admit that he wants to be friends with Sayaka (chapter 42)
To all the fans who ship A-kun and Sayaka, I'm sorry to tell you that he feels no romantic feeling for her whatsoever (chapter 119.7). He only wants to date her so that Yoshiko and the disciplinary president give up on him (chapter 126)
Relationship with Yoshiko
A-kun holds Yoshiko in some regard, since he still refers to her as his childhood friend and genuinely wants to see her improve. Every morning he wakes her up and goes to school with her. If she runs off somewhere like the park, he goes after her. After school, her walks her home. Reluctantly, he spends time with her at the mall, karaoke, and at restaurants. He attends all her tutoring sessions with their sensei. The explanation provided is that he does this as a favor to Yoshiko's mother. He also admits that he'd feel guilty if Yoshiko failed in society and couldn't survive
One time, Yoshiko fell asleep outside and he gave some cover (chapter 8). Another time, Yoshiko caught a cold and he nursed back to full health. He claimed that it was to prevent other people from catching it (chapter 83)
He spent an entire day preparing material for Yoshiko memorize for their mid-terms, and forcibly gave her an overnight cram session (chapter 36)
Canonically, he spends so much time worrying about Yoshiko that he isn't about to get more than 99% on his tests. It's only in chapter 116 that he achieves a perfect score
There are times where A-kun gets along with Yoshiko, albeit they are rare. When she's reasonably calm (chapter 61). When he plays at the arcade (chapter 91). On her birthday, when they play catch (chapter 94.5). For the most part though, they need a third-party involved like Sayaka or Dog
He can unexpectedly get caught up in Yoshiko's schemes
Example 1: A-kun pretended to hold a kid hostage after Yoshiko called him a demon (chapter 12).
Example 2: Without realizing it, A-kun started to play with Yoshiko (chapter 38)
Example 3: He let Yoshiko borrow his school uniform so that she could become "Yoshio" (chapter 52)
Example 4: They legitimately teamed up with sneak Dog into an airport (chapter 119.4)
It hurts A-kun's pride when Yoshiko succeeds at something that he can't.
Example 1: Yoshiko challenged A-kun to a concentration game, which he normally plays by himself. When she was about to win, he declared the match invalid (chapter 20)
Example 2: Yoshiko bragged about how good she was at Aitatsu, the arcade game I mentioned earlier. It prompted him to spend an hour learning how to play
On multiple occasions, A-kun has put Yoshiko in harm's way such as spike traps (chapter 22), pitfall traps (chapter 26), bear traps (chapter 105.5), and throwing her at an actual bear (chapter 121). Crushing her with boulders and impaling her with sharp rocks (chapter 102). There was also that time he plotted with Yoshiko's mom to abandon her in a forest located in the Philippines (chapter 122)
Given Yoshiko's near-invulnerability, the sheer lengths A-kun goes to keep her away are somewhat justified. Additionally, he has attempted to minimize her behavior in more constructive ways (chapter 72)
Final Conclusion
In the most toxic way, A-kun and Yoshiko are obsessed with each other. She has mental issues and bad influences that cause her to pursue him. In spite of his hatred for her, A-kun feels obligated to watch over her. He has embraced Yoshiko as his responsibility – apologizing to others on her behalf, bringing spare bananas for her to eat, and training her to function in society. Even at his own detriment, he blames himself for not dealing with Yoshiko properly and hates it when Sayaka and the disciplinary president sacrifice themselves for him
A-kun may appear to be the voice of reason, and I suppose he is for this series, but it's hard to deny that he's hotheaded, insensitive, and anti-social. The bigger question is whether or not, that's his true nature or if it's the trauma he experienced growing up
Someone might say, "he's surrounded by freaks! I would act the same way!". However, there are people he can get along with like Sayaka. If he put himself out there more, he could probably make some friends. Just to be clear, I don't think there's anything wrong with being a loner. In this case though, I think it's necessary since his only "friend" is the source of his problems. Having a real friend would heal some of the damage

2023.05.29 06:10 PhatOofxD HyperX Orbit S - Ridiculous brittle plastic situation

I'll start by saying I've been buying HyperX headsets for years and always been super impressed with build quality - Bought Cloud II's, Cloud Alphas, Cloud Mix, and now Orbit S headphones last year, as well as have always strongly recommended them to friends - literally mainly because of build quality.
Now it's not surprise to anyone about the brittleness of the plastic on the Orbit S, for example:

https://www.reddit.com/HyperX/comments/utc5al/hyperx_cloud_orbit_s_damaged_from_normal_use/https://www.reddit.com/HyperX/comments/ime7yh/extremly_brittle_plastic_on_hyperx_cloud_orbit/

https://www.reddit.com/HyperX/comments/k6snwh/cloud_orbit_s_broken_plastic/
When I purchased the headset I was somewhat aware of this, in fact there were 5-10 reviews stating the same thing on the website I purchased from (Which is a reasonably small website), but figured "Hey, well if I take really good care of it then it'll be fine, you just need to be extra careful". So I only ever put it carefully on a headphone stand, carefully lifted it onto my head etc.
Within a month or so a tiny piece internally had broken that held the adjustment mechanism tight, but some hot glue / tape fixed that fine and I thought that was mostly what complaints were about. Until one day about 10 months after ownership I literally just picked it up by one earcup instead of two and the whole thing snapped off.
It's quite ridiculous at the price, and sad given it is their best sounding headset. HyperX normally have amazing build quality, it seems like this time they just rebranded an Audeze product with zero verification. I went to reseller for warranty and got denied due to 'physical damage', should I try going direct to HyperX? (Could be more pain than it's worth though given I live in New Zealand I don't believe they have any presence here in terms of service, not to mention I'm going to be out of warranty in a few days because it took three months to get back from the reseller after they lost my package - heck, it isn't actually back yet just on the way back, this is in NZ where postage is nearly 100% overnight every time)
Anyone who had them before got any recommendations for new headphones? I don't want to go backwards in sound quality but don't really want to buy another pair just to have them break in 10 months.
Also is it not a little weird that they have a shorter warranty period for the Orbits vs every other headset? I can understand it because it's from another brand, just seems odd given they're the ones that break often.

2023.05.29 02:30 siaoko Irvine Company leasing agent said I can use my garage to charge my EV, but lease says otherwise?

The person that helped me throughout the leasing process said I could use the outlet in the assigned garages to charge my EV. Now I'm reviewing the lease (thankfully I haven't signed yet) and it says using that outlet is prohibited.
What gives? Was this a recent policy change that seemed to happen overnight during my application process? I already paid the holding deposit and application fee... but thankfully I haven't signed the lease yet.
Being able to charge my EV at home is a big reason why I chose an apartment with a garage.

2023.05.28 21:18 CurveOfTheUniverse ChatGPT helped me make an oat milk recipe — what feedback do you have?

I’ve been doing a ton of research on commercial oat milk processes lately, purely from a hobbyist standpoint. There’s a lot of uncertainty I experience around the process, since I don’t have any professional background, so I decided to utilize what information I do feel confident in to aid ChatGPT in generating a home kitchen recipe for oat milk. I wanted to get feedback on it and see what tweaks you might suggest for making a versatile, enjoyable oat milk.
Ingredients - 1 cup rolled oats - 4 cups water - Amylase (follow manufacturer's instructions for dosage) - 2 tablespoons rapeseed oil - 1/2 teaspoon sea salt - 1/4 teaspoon gellan gum - 1/8 teaspoon dipotassium phosphate Instructions:
Soaking and Blending: - Place the rolled oats in a bowl and cover them with water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight. This step helps soften the oats and make them easier to blend. - Drain and rinse the soaked oats thoroughly. - In a blender, combine the soaked oats with 4 cups of fresh water. Blend on high speed for a couple of minutes until you have a smooth and creamy mixture.
Adding Amylase: - Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to determine the appropriate dosage of amylase for your oat milk recipe. - Add the recommended amount of amylase to the oat mixture in the blender. - Blend again for a few seconds to ensure the amylase is thoroughly incorporated.
Straining and Flavoring: - Place a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a large bowl or pitcher. - Slowly pour the blended oat mixture into the strainer, allowing the liquid to separate from the oat pulp. Gently press the pulp with the back of a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. - Discard the oat pulp or save it for other purposes, such as adding to baked goods or smoothies.
Emulsifying and Seasoning: - In a separate small bowl, combine the rapeseed oil, sea salt, gellan gum, and dipotassium phosphate. Stir until the ingredients are well mixed. - Pour the mixture into the oat milk and whisk vigorously to ensure proper emulsification and distribution of the additives.
Resting and Refrigeration: - Let the oat milk rest for a few minutes to allow the gellan gum to hydrate and thicken the milk. - Transfer the oat milk to a glass bottle or container with a tight-fitting lid. - Refrigerate the oat milk for at least 1-2 hours to chill and further enhance its texture and flavor.
