Hey friends... guess what? I actually got up early today! While there were still three digits on the clock! Okay, 9:57, but still. So I'm posting while most of you are still going about your day... I'm bored.
So after two hours of sitting on the internet and doing nothing, I heard the door open and freaked the fuck out. My dad doesn't usually come downstairs until 3ish so that couldn't be him coming HOME, right?
Nope, it's him. I guess he's on an early sleep cycle now too. I have that effect on him.
It's a good thing we're both up though, because (I had forgotten but my dad reminded me) National Grid is coming ridiculously early tomorrow to see whatever the problem is with the electric bill being so high. Though we pay the bills, they are in our landlords' names. She thinks something's wrong because the electric bill was so high last year. I'm starting to wonder if she thinks we were growing, lol.
On that note I'm running low on weed, so maybe I'll finish tonight and be able to pick up again on... I guess Saturday morning is when my money comes in? At which point I'll figure out where I'm gonna stay in the next couple weeks. The plan, as of right now, is to head up north up near the town where my "brother" (The Fisherman) lives. The human tendency to believe in and prop up certain ideas and figureheads as being beyond criticism or reconsideration is ubiquitous to us.
Some might say a defining trait of our species.
FromSoftware understands this tendency and as such have created a character who fits the mold of a benevolent savior and empathetic leader. However, the evidence in the game itself seems to suggest that they may not be as benevolent as the community believes.

This is the story of Miquella, as i understand it; and how Fromsoft deceived their playerbase into adoring a God of Manipulation.
​
TL;DR A single Aeonia caused Caelid, and there are 2-3 just chilling in the haligtree. Gowry is likely Miquella possessing pests.

Part 1: Obfuscation and Vague Language

The descriptions of Miquella in the game are intentionally obfuscated and use vague neutral language, furthermore the wording is specifically chosen as to be easier to interpret as being of benevolent intention.
However, nowhere is empathetic intention explicitly demonstrated, and statements that might at a glance seem empathetic can be interpreted as sinister or cold and calculated.

1. "My brother will keep his promise. He possesses the wisdom, the allure, of a god – he is the most fearsome Empyrean of all.” - Melanias helm

This quote could be interpreted as evidence of Miquella being a benevolent character, true to his word. However, it more directly implies that he is both Worthy of Fear, Unnaturally compelling, and, extremely wise.

1. "The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people." - bewitching branch

This quote is relatively straightforward, but it could be argued that being loved by many people is not necessarily a sign of a benevolent character. People can be loved for a variety of reasons, some of which may not be morally upright.
The other half of this quote is far more revealing.
"For he has learned very well how to Compel such Affection"-
This might very well be the biggest red flag that the love held for Miquella is born of His will to Be loved, rather than the will of those who love him to Choose to love him.

"Oh brother, lord brother, please die a true death" - golden epitaph
This quote could be interpreted as a prayer for mercy or a desire for Miquella's brother to have a peaceful and dignified death. However, it could also be interpreted as a sinister or calculated statement, suggesting that Miquella has some ulterior motive for wanting his brother to die. This interpertation is furthered by the fact that the eclipse shotel Weaponizes deathblight "Set the sord aflame with the prince of deaths deathblight'
Additionally it is also stated on the golden epitaph that the sword was itself 'made to commemorate the death of Godwyn the Golden, first of the demigods to die.' - a statement like this is equally ambiguous, as in my mind commemoration is often a positive occasion.

"He abandoned fundamentalism when he realized it could do nothing to contain Melanias rot" - Radagons rings of light incantation.
This quote suggests that Miquella abandoned his fundamentalist beliefs in order to find a way to contain his sister's rot. However, it could also be interpreted as evidence that Miquella is willing to abandon his principles when they no longer serve his goals. Furthermore, i believe this is alluding to the time when he realized rot to be a more powerful force than anything contained within the golden order.
Thus dawning the age of Unalloyed gold.

"Who is it that Miquella shall bless, if not the low and the meek?" - The Sacred Crown Helm
This quote could be interpreted as evidence of Miquella's benevolence, suggesting that he is concerned with helping those who are disadvantaged. However, it could also be interpreted as a sinister statement, suggesting that Miquella sees the low and the meek as an untapped resource that he can exploit for his own purposes. Afterall, those in crisis make for devout converts.

It seems to be the case that people believe Miquella is good because it is what they want to believe, and in this they gravitate towards the interpretation that casts him in a good light.
This is why, all the fan art we ever see of him is of an innocent benevolent being- and, as such, that is how we have began to think of him.

I believe however that this was exactly the intention of Fromsoft.

Part 2: Love and Will, Blood and Gold

The Bewitching Branch is made of an Enchantment of Unalloyed Gold, and Youthful Sacramental Blood. One of the items is Miquellas lily, who's description states "A delicate water lily of unalloyed gold thought to be beloved by the Empyrean Miquella in his youth." (The branch happens to be the only thing that can be crafted with this item.)
The second ingredient in the bewitching branch is the only other item in the game that speaks to the act of someone tending to plants with their own Blood. The Sacramental Bud. We learn in the description of these buds that they were long ago "cultivated with youthful, sacramental blood.".

What is another case we have of Youthful Blood being used to Feed a Plant?
The Haligtree. "watered with Miquellas own blood"
This Youthful blood combined with the Unalloyed Gold, compels wills.

This realization leads one to multiple conclusions, one of which being that the haligtree itself could potentially be a beacon of will domination of sorts; being grown of his blood, and braced in a structure of unalloyed gold.
​
This also leads me to believe that perhaps Melania might be entirely subject to the Will of Miquella. His first and most successful test of the perfected bewitching branch - the Unalloyed Gold Needle.
The fact that she is clad in unalloyed gold, and has had the golden needle within her, leads me to believe that not only was the will of the rot within her being contained, but indeed Melania herself had become subject to the bewitching allure of Miquella.
She is now merely his Blade.

Additionally, Understanding the components of the bewitching branch provides insight into what role Mohg is to play in Miquellas larger scheme.
We learn from a ghost in the consecrated snowfields that mogh took Miquellas 'sacred flesh', as if to put emphasis on the fact that this is Just his body, not his soul.
Furthermore, in the opening of the game we seem mohg carrying the lifeless body- and importantly- it is Cocoonless. Meaning that the cocoon we see him in Now, is one he crafted around himself in his new area. It is also a visual match to the ones present in the haligtree, so, definitely miquellas going.

Speaking of the cocoon; we learn from the 'lord of bloods exaltation' talisman, that this cocoon has a literal thirst for blood.
As it states "render up your offerings of blood; Drench my consort's chamber. Slake his cocoon's thirst." Notice how it doenst say 'fill his cocoons bounds' or 'drench his body', instead specifically drawing attention to the fact that Miquellas Cocoon Wants Blood.
And miquellas blood, is powerful.

So much so in fact that the formless mother might be to Miquella what the rot godess is to Melania. Only miquella has learned how to dominate wills, and as such he is more in control of the formless mother than she is of him. This could be the reason for the unalloyed gold ring on miquellas body.
​
Mohg is an unwanted omen demi god, discarded into the leyndell sewers at birth up until he was elevated by the mysterious 'formless mother'. (potentially by the will of miquella).
Miquella was a prodigy Empyrean who studied closely with his father and God Radagon and was powerful enough to invent a technology capable of controlling the will of the scarlet rot, and developing a godtree likely intended to take the place of the erdtree as the central governing force of life and death in the lands between.
Suffice to say, i think the assumption that miquella would have left himself so vulnerable to attack is a mistake. And it makes more sense to me that Mogh has a role to play in the larger scheme.

Mogh himself doesnt know this- believing to have been chosen to begat an age of his own- but he is more likely a mere pawn of the more knowledgeable demigod. As no matter how much he serves miquellas will, his lifeless body does not acknowledge him. So Mohg carries on, clueless as to the role he is playing.

Part 3: 'Gowry' and the Haligtree of Rot

The following presumes Gowry's questline, with either outcome, to be cannon.
There are either two or three Scarlet Aeonia in the base of the Haligtree. A Single One of these blooms caused Caelid.
This revelation has significant implications for the future of the Haligtree.
​
I think it might be the case that Melania, by will of Miquella, fought in the shattering to test the full power of the Rot and to implement Miquella's desire for godhood and the creation of new life. As well as Miquella's plans for controlling the deathblight of Godwyn; bound up in the stars, which Radahn had halted.
​
In "Cleanrot Knight Finlays Ashes," it is revealed that Melania fell into a Slumber immediately after the initial Caelid bloom and was carried back by a random knight in unalloyed gold. The feat is described as unbelievable, specifically to draw attention to it. I believe this may be because it was not just some random Knight, but indeed the sould of a demigod piloting a Knight.
At current, Melania is found at the base of the Haligtree, slowly acclimating it to the rot, as i believe that part of Miquella's plan is to have the Haligtree become an erdtree of the strongest force in the land - the Scarlet Rot.
This way, the blooms will develop within an environment already prepared for them. Also, the haligtree is a Giant Hollow tube, with a brace surrounding it. A perfect structure to bear the new aeonian blooms.
We also see a drainage channel in the haligtree- yet interestingly, it is draining away Water- while a literal Waterfall of Rot pours down into it.

But it is time to ask; Who is Gowry?
​
He would like us to believe him to be a heretical sage from Selia, offering us sellian spells and insights into the town. Initially he insults the worshipers of the rot as being 'witless', only to then later proclaim to be himself a worshipper of the Rot. And, finally, he claims to be father to Millicent and her sisters.
​
The first time you see Gowry, he asks you to cross the aeonian swamp. A tarnished on foot could do no such task. Yet, torrent, who's summoning ring is made of unalloyed gold, is unaffected by the rot. We know this is the case because the ring does not burn in the frenzied flame ending. But more importantly; How does Gowry know we have Torrent? Or that torrent possesses this ability? We have recently learned from the DLC reveal photo that Miquella was quite possibly torrents previous owner- and that torrent just happened to choose 'us' - the most probable candidate for success.

So. Gowry asks you to cross the lake of rot in aeonia- why? to retrieve for him a Broken Unalloyed Gold Needle. But how does he know of the existence of this item? and how does he know it is there? When we retrieve it for him, he then asks us to leave him be in private so he can Repair it. How does he Know how to repair one of the most advanced pieces of technology in the lands between? Designed specifically to combat the wills of outer gods. Or what it even is? or does? We return to find he has repaired it, and once repaired, it has a Tiny conspicuous Blood Red Spot in the center..
Blood, and Gold.
He then tells us to please give it to Millicent because He Just Knows Exactly what the needle is for, and how to use it.

We approach Millicent with the needle, and she seems surprised and skeptical that a random needle would cure her rot- as if its capacity to do so is far from common knowledge. She then Immediately falls Asleep, and awakens with a sudden urge to go to the Haligtree.
We talk again to Gowry and he acts as though this is All According to Plan. Sending Millicent to Bloom in the Haligtree.
Saying 'now she TOO can begin her journey' - admitting that he is likely the cause for the other bloom we see at the bottom of the haligtree.
Furthermore he knows by exactly what mechanisms Millicent can be made to bloom into the most potent bomb for the haligtree. How would he know that? and Why the Haligtree? Throughout the quest he also demonstrates knowledge of events in Millicents quest before having been told of them, as though he is somehow keeping tabs through the unalloyed gold
Gowry seems to have a deep knowledge of both the scarlet rot and unalloyed gold, even though it's not clear how he could have obtained that knowledge.
This raises some questions about his true identity and motivations.
One possible explanation for Gowry's knowledge is that he is actually a persona invented by Miquella, as Miquella is a well-known scholar who has studied the scarlet rot extensively, and invented/utilized unalloyed gold to combat it.
It's possible that she created the Gowry character to manipulate the player.

Ordina, the northern most selian town, is covered in miquella statues- so we know miquella had knowledge of and connections to the selians; enough knowledge to impersonate one.
​
If Gowry is really Miquella in disguise, then it would resolve many of the conflicts in logic that arise from his character. For example, it would explain how he knows so much about the scarlet rot, even though he shouldn't. How he knows things about millicent without first being told. How he Knows not only where the unalloyed gold needle is, but what it does, how to repair it, and how its used!
It would also explain why he seems to have conflicting motivations and contradictions in the things he says to us - he might be trying to guide the player towards a certain goal, while also trying to protect his true identity as Miquella.

Additionally, the highest concentrations of sacramental buds in the game are by the hidden Miquella statue where we find the amber starlight, and, in the church where we meet Millicent.
​
Overall, the idea that Gowry is really Miquella in disguise (possessing pests like ranni possesses a doll or like shabriri with corpses) seems like a plausible explanation for many of the mysteries surrounding his character. However, it's also possible that there are other explanations that haven't been revealed yet, so it's hard to say for sure.
​
He puts on an act, but in his lies there are truths. For instance, Millicent and kin might well be his 'daughters' in that he engineered the conditions of their births. He also laughs suspiciously long after saying 'i must be getting old' almost like he thought he never would.
Or when you first give him the needle and he talks himself up saying 'ah yes this must have been made my a true artisan visionary who understands the nature of life'.
Like, how would YOU know Gowry? Got a lot of points of reference for this sort of thing?

I believe the story of Miquellas haligtree is not a tragedy, and his plan has not failed. In fact, we played right into it.
It is a cautionary tail of the consequences of unexamined unquestioning faith in a narrative for the reason alone that one would prefer it be true.
The Truest tragedy of the game is Melania, who never had a chance between the rot within and the manipulation of her brother demigod who sought only to use her rot to seek dominion over the lands between.
The oracles in the haligtree herald the coming god, but its not Melania.
Fromsoft has cultivated a mentality within their community around the idea of Miquella,\ the empathetic and Just, benevolent savior of those unblessed by grace, tragically abducted; plans halted or uprooted.
But the reality of it seems to be far more sinister, and also, far more human.

One version of the story is emotionally appealing and easy to see at a surface level glance, While the other is unpleasant and unnerving, and requires more in-depth reasoning to discover.
​
In this, i believe they have successfully convinced the majority of the playerbase, including those who proport to communicate the lore, that this most fearsome and compelling of gods is Exactly who he'd like you to think he is- a god worth worshiping unquestionably -because that is the story that we in large want to believe
​
So much so that much like with real world figures of worship, many cant even comprehend being wrong in their placement of their faith, because to do so would mean to admit that someone once praised was never worthy of praise at all, and may indeed have been manipulating all along our desire for something worthy of worship.

Honestly the metanarrative behind this aspect of the game has blown me away. The success with which they have deceived us into believing in a false idol, while also putting the information that undoes them right before our eyes. Building such a masterful illusion of benevolence around a character who is potentially a true horror-

I have a file that is all little endian 32-bit numbers. I know how to read a file and get a slice of bytes. Is there any way to cast this []u8 to []u32 with little endianness? Alternatively, is there a way to read directly into a []u32?

How pervasive was the anti-Asian discrimination in places like Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela or Brazil? Was it worse, the same or not as bad as in North America?
What would have been the justifications for this kind of anti-Asian discrimination?
Were there massacres, ethnic cleansing, indentured servitude and Chinese/Japanese exclusion acts?
What would it have been like to be an Asian minority in 19th century Peru or Guatemala?

2 cents about 3DEXPERIENCE from me as VAR (North America) employee... I'll say as much as I can without violating NDA, but still from anonymous account, just in case. I am a software developer by trade. Started working with SW in 2015, was always in love with it, despite it's many quirks. As a developer, I have always criticized the direction SW was taking with new releases - every year it is new features, most of which were never anticipated or planned in the core code, fixes on top of fixes that break more than they fix, UI getting more and more inconsistent, major issues that can't be solved without breaking backwards compatibility. I've always said that SW desperately needs a full, complete re-write from scratch, otherwise it will only get worse every year...
And despite all that, SW is light years ahead the abomination that 3DEXPERIENCE platform is. This platform should have been exactly what I meant - a fresh, clean solution that consolidates the best SW and other connected softwares have to offer, learning from the past mistakes and building a solid core code that is adaptable to future changes. But somehow, 3DEXPERIENCE turned out to be exact opposite - the worst example of "design by committee" that I have ever seen. There were some good ideas and some honest attempts in isolated parts of it - like xDesign, where devs really tried to consolidate core features and UI (for example, realizing that Boss Extrude, Cut and Revolve is basically the same feature with different parameters, so they can be combined into one super-feature), which is what I was hoping for. But with core code of the platform being such a terrible mess, these few good bits are just lost in a sea of bugs, errors and horrendous lag at every mouse click.
I say this after having spent more than a thousand hours learning, testing and debugging this platform, because around two years ago cooperate gave us a directive that we must forget SW Desktop, and shift our focus to the platform. We, technicians, went through A LOT of training to get the hang of the it so we can provide adequate support to our clients. I lost count of how many times I "rage quit" because literally nothing is working. Not imported SW projects, not fresh projects without SW, not even the official demos that we are somehow supposed to show to our clients. Crashes, errors without any technical info, non responsive UI which often makes you wonder if your mouse click was not registered or if you just need to wait 5 more minutes for it to register, messed up files, duplicates, fouled file names, revision clashes, tools disabling themselves for no apparent reason, insufficient permissions even as an Admin, getting logged out 10 times everyday, lack of the most basic tools, disappearing geometry, parts with graphics that make the original Super Mario game look ultra-realistic by comparison...
Debugging is a total nightmare, requiring to set up fiddle traces for the browser almost every time. In total, our team submitted over 230 tickets to the 3DEXPERIENCE R&D in these last couple of years. Average response time - 2 weeks to each message, almost exclusively from people who speak worse English than my dog, half the time they don't even understand the issue, and sometimes obviously try to downplay it. Of these 230 tickets only around 14 of them were "solved", while around 200 are in the "R&D Handling" stage - meaning someone is supposed to be fixing them. Haha, riiight...
There have been around 8 major updates to the platform during these past few years, and I swear that for every bug they fix, 5 new ones appear. When the platform just came out, corporate used to give us instructions on how to do live demos, but now they only give us pre-recorded videos to show to the customers, because it is impossible to show anything live anymore without at least a single crash.
I even tried using the platform with my hobby SW projects (SW for Makers program) - really, really simple stuff, small assemblies - mostly to make use of revisions, file history and centralized database, nothing fancy - and thank heavens I made full backups of everything, because every single time I tried, my project files were messed up beyond any hope of recovery. Not to mention constant crashes of both SW and the platform in the browser. And even when it works, even the simplest actions, like navigation, saving, loading, opening a sketch (in the browser) takes literal seconds to complete... Sometimes in the double digits. It just makes you want to shoot yourself in the head.
And despite that, we are pressured to sell this abomination to our clients, to market it as the next step in PLM and CAD design. Even as VARs, we really have no say in it. I feel terrible for the clients who have already went on the platform - and they hate us now, flooding us with support tickets that we can't solve, because there are no solutions. This really sits on my conscience - I wish to tell them "don't buy this crap, stay with desktop SW and PDM"... but we're not supposed to say that, no matter what. All hail the glorious platform.
The worst thing about it is that it has no chance of becoming a usable product. The whole concept is flawed from the start - the role system, the navigation, the way apps are structured, the way data is shared between them. Sure, bugs can be fixed, performance can be improved (I doubt we'll live long enough to see it!), but the bad design is here to stay. Since it is already being used by customers, it means the R&D cannot make big changes or to start from clean slate, they must now maintain backward compatibility with the mess that the platform is right now. It would be like trying to rebuild a car into a bike while it is riding with passengers onboard.
All this is to say... Stay away from this platform if you can. Don't let your workplace management fall into the trap and buy into this "ecosystem". You will go crazy. 3DEXPERIENCE is not just "unpolished" or "still needs work". The very foundations of it are coded completely wrong, and no amount of patching can fix it. The only hope is for the Dassault to ditch it completely, and start from scratch. Personally, I'd rather they just returned full focus on SW Desktop, and "sacrificed" SW 2024 and SW 2025 (at least) for bug fixes rather than new features... As if that will ever happen.
Also beware that our client companies that decided to try the platform and uploaded their data to the cloud, soon found out that there is no way to get that data back. Yes, there is literally no working method to download all of your data. You have to download each SW file individually, and if you do that, it will have broken references to other files. Gladly, we warned all these companies to make full backups before uploading anything to the platform. No one could compensate them for their lost time, though.
A final request... If you can, please encourage your VAR to rise against the corporate and shut down this mess. Like I said, we are trying to do what we can, but we VARs don't communicate with one another as much as I'd like (competition and all), so the voice of the user base is very important here. I hear some VAR in EuroNorth is making big waves, but it's all hush-hush right now. Hopefully we will all soon join forces and march on Dassault. But it is essential that we have our customers backing us.
Seeing how many posts there are already here about the platform, perhaps I am not saying anything new... But I just wanted you guys to know that a lot of us VARs are on your side. Feel free to ask anything, I will answer if I can.

The Setup:
In 1992 a strange show became serialized on Chicago Public Access. A strange mess of a show known only as “LUST” that was started by the local Vampire LARP as a way to take some of their stories and turn it into a proper TV series. Or as proper as a late night public access show could. With what budget they could scrounge up the kids did their best to make their own Lost Boys within their home of Chicago. At its peak they had quite the fanbase that watched it for the schlock and they even got to cameo in a few episodes of the chicago based horror host “Svengoolie”. The show lasted throughout the 90s but ended by the beginning of the new millenia. Much of the cast growing out of their old phases. Most of the plots of the old LUST TV Show were simple political, personal, or investigative plots. Poking fun at the cheap sets and hokey acting in this loving satire of Vampire the Masquerade and early 90s goth trash.

The Plot of the First Episode was that: Long ago within Chicago there used to be a Coven of Vampires. An old friend of the PCs Coven has been found dead within Navy Pier. Signs of a struggle being shown as he had done his best to fight off the intruder but now he’s dead as someone had drained him. Assembling at his funeral, the old coven has reformed with advice from the Vampiric Prince “Lambert” as they now must figure out who has been killing and draining all these vampires.

What is this?
LUST is a game of They Came From Beyond The Grave based heavily on Goth Trash media and vampire stuff. To start slow They Came From Beyond The Grave is a meta game that is supposed to mimic shitty b horror films. Think the old Hammer Dracula movies, old exploitation, and slasher movies. In a normal game of They Came From Beyond The Grave you are Shaggy, you are Van Helsing, you are Ash Williams, and you are Peter Venkman. You are all members of a cheap horror movie. If you are familiar with World of Darkness, Trinity, Chronicles of Darkness then things should be very familiar to you. All rolls are made with d10 pools but you have special mechanics as you get Rewrite Points, Trademarks, and other stuff to sell the vibes this is a shitty cheap movie. Specifically Rewrite Points which are basically Hero Points/Bennies/Fate Points but flavored to it being funny meta stuff. You spend rewrite points to envoke a Cheap Set that will either add a +2 or -2 to a roll or you can save yourself by going "Scene Missing!" to completely lose a scene. It's very light hearted and meta... But we are doing something different with it. By different I mean using the expansion "They Came from Draculas Tomb" to do a game of Vampire. The PCs are vampires within a shitty vampire TV show from the late 80s and early 90s. Think Vampire the Masquerade, Lost Boys, Forever Knight, Near Dark, Interview with the Vampire, The Crow and shit like that. A loving satire to that era of schlock through the lens of a god awful Public Access show. Is it weird? Yeah it is.

The Book Of My Soul

Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle and would love some advice if you have a moment.
Quick context: First time home-owner with minimal experience in DIY repairs, bought a house built in the 70s from a flipper and just nodded at the inspection paperwork. 'Expensive lesson' doesn't even begin to describe how many things are wrong with this house. Live and learn, and I'm trying my best to learn as much as I can.
Our bathtubs flooded with sewage and our toilets wouldn't flush after running the washing machine. Plumbers came out, couldn't find the clear out cap, so they removed the toilet and ran their auger. One of the plumbers went out front to listen and they were able to pin-point where the clear out was... Underneath a 2 ft tall brick flowerbed the flipper built. They drilled into it, found the cap and cleared it. They inspected further down the line and hit a wall they couldn't get through with the auger from the clearout. After a bit of digging in the yard, they discovered the collapsed cast-iron piping. So it'll likely all have to be re-done from the house to the city line which.. Goes underneath my driveway. Quote was roughly $5,400, not including having to hire a concrete company to fix the driveway. Seems completely fair to me.
I'm in-between jobs, my savings are depleted and I can't afford major home repairs at the moment. But they left the clearout un-capped and I'm.. Pretty sure all of our literal shit is going to end up in our front yard. It's totally a code violation and I don't want to upset my neighbors, so I need to get this fixed ASAP.
Should I be looking into something like a HELOC?.. Or should I go ahead with their in-house financing through FOA? (My credit isn't great either, so I'm not sure if a HELOC is even possible)

Yet, the Dean seems to be interested enough in the circumstances, or at least on a project the professor had been working on before he died, that he calls you in at the recommendation of the morgue assistant. You are all connected to an amateur university investigation club, with a bent toward the unexplained. With no one else to turn to and not wanting this to get out to the press and create a potential scandal, Dean Fallon puts you all on the case. Surely nothing can go wrong?

Hello, I'm Kat! An experienced Game Master but newer to Call of Cthulhu and looking to dip my toes into the system with a short adventure on Roll20. By my estimate, Crimson Letters will last from three to five sessions depending on how deeply the group...well, investigates!
It will be starting on Sunday, April 2nd, and going weekly until the scenario wraps up three to six weeks later for the most likely time frame.
Crimson Letters leans rather heavily into a sandbox style of game where it'll be up to your sleuthing to discover exactly what happened to the deceased Professor Leiter, as well as the whereabouts of some missing documents he'd been researching prior to his death. This is not a linear point A to B to C scenario. Where you go, who you talk to, how you go about solving this case, and how you'll explore the motives of the various characters you'll come across is completely up to you! So get your notepads ready, and keep an eye out for shadows moving in the dark...

Character Creation

I have made a set of nine premade investigators that you can choose from for this adventure, complete with background information and ties to the scenario and the other investigators involved. I am open to talking about tweaks to characters if you would like, but as a new Keeper, using premade, especially for a short scenario, is the way I have decided to go to help both me and any new players.

What is provided

I will set up music, splash screens, and a lot of props. All you need to do is show up. Everything else is provided and I've done my best to make sure it's an atmospheric and professional experience. I will again forewarn you that though I am an experienced Game Master, I am newer to the system of CoC, so I am still becoming acquainted with the rules.
That said, I have read both the Keeper and Investigator guides as well as posted a number of resources to the Discord channel for help with rules referencing on anything that may arise that I am not as familiar with, as well as to help other newcomers to the system.

About the Keeper

I have been running various games for about seven years now, from (with varying amounts of experience) Cyberpunk Red, Blades in the Dark, Vampire the Masquerade, D&D 5e, Avatar Legends, and now Call of Cthulhu 7e. I come from a writing and amateur acting background, so my big love as a Game Master is making a realistic, breathing, and growing world for players to impact and explore. I particularly pride myself on making a cast of dynamic NPCs to interact with, regardless of the system.
I am not a voice actor. I can do pretty well with voices, but if you come in expecting Matthew Mercer's level of acting skill, you will be disappointed. I have not been to VA school. I have been told, however, that I can do a near-perfect sheep impersonation.
Lastly, I value communication and mutual respect. I find 99% of problems at a table stem from not understanding the boundaries and expectations of other players, and listening to the group around you. If you have problems or concerns, we will talk about them like mature adults and try our best to find a solution.
My table is always a safe space for minority communities and bigotry, despite playing in an era where it runs rampant, is not tolerated by players.

I just got a black mesh North and am planning to get the rest of my components soon. I am looking to add in a 4090 FE and a Phantom Spirit air cooler (basically the same as the Peerless Assassin but with an extra pipe added, same X and Y dimensions).
Ideally I'd like to vertically mount my 4090 and use the included cage on the bottom-most placement to add in side fans. Can you help me determine if I would have clearance or not—for both the side fans when vertically mounted, and for the air cooler when vertically mounted vs an AIO—and which vertical mount to use?

The Book Of My Soul

I live in North Philadelphia/Brewerytown. Over the last few months, I have noticed I routinely receive packages from UPS that are opened. Sometimes items are missing, sometimes not.
Today I received 3 packages and all 3 have been tampered with. This time the items were intact and not damaged or stolen.
I am just wondering if drivers are tampering with items, or if employees at the warehouses are doing it? Is there any protocol in place by UPS to prevent this from happening?
One package was legit just flapping open. I don't understand how this is safe or acceptable. Of course, there's no way to report this unless the item inside was damaged. But I feel extremely exposed like someone is checking my mail or monitoring my items. Perhaps I'm overthinking here, but theft in the city has gone up tremendously. Regular people are just trying to hold on to their items and their money.
I am bringing in my items as soon as they are delivered, but this really concerns me.
Appreciate any insights.
