2023.03.29 22:16 evilbert420 Initial Impressions of the Pioneer DDJ-FLX10
I was fortunate to receive a DDJ-FLX10 yesterday. What follows are my first impressions after spending about two hours with it. Just my opinions. I'm an open-format/event/mobile DJ so that's the lens I look through.
-Overall build quality is very similar to the DDJ-800 and DDJ-1000 that came before. This doesn't feel like a FLX6 in any way. In other words, it's excellent quality.
-Mine says it was manufactured in January 2023.
-Jogs feel more like CDJ-3000s, thus they are less noisy and a bit more smooth than what is on the 1000/SRT. Love it!
-I don't really notice a difference with the FLX6-style dimples on the jogs.
-It's GREAT having jog display options, including parallel waveforms, on Serato. To me this was the biggest downgrade from the 1000 to the 1000SRT. On the FLX10 you can change jog displays using SHIFT-< and SHIFT->. In Serato you need to hold the buttons down, whereas with Rekordbox the jogs change upon key press. That threw me off at first as I wasn't understanding why I couldn't change the jogs in Serato. Gotta hold the buttons a bit longer!
-The pad mode buttons are no longer MPC-style like the pads are, they are clicky-plastic like on cheaper controllers. A bit of a downgrade here, although there's no real functional change as these buttons wouldn't be used for pad drumming.
-The pitch faders do feel like a downgrade to me. Their resistance and feel is more "plasticky" than what I'd like. This is one area where it feels they cut costs to hit their price point. Also, I'm not sure why there's a trend to remove the indentation on pitch faders, but the Tempo Reset button is an okay compromise that I feel is a little clumsy.
-Not too much needs to be said about Rekordbox track separation that hasn't already been said. We all know Pioneer needs to improve quality ASAP, both by improving the algorithm(s) used and by allowing those of us with modern computers to use the processing power we have available.
-I don't see where I can remap the Part Separation buttons in Serato outside of using normal MIDI Mappings. I want to be able to move bass and drums to the same button, as that's the more common split for my stem use.
-Part FX is, in my mind, the killer feature of this and the Rane Four. Being able to apply colobeat fx to the vocals without impacting the rest of the track is THE killer feature IMO and really opens stems up.
-The LEDs for showing beat fx channel assignments are a welcome carry-over from mixers like the DJM-900NXS2 and the Denon X1850. Another small QoL improvement from the 1000/SRT.
-The FLX10 fits in the Pioneer DJC-B3 soft case. Like the DDJ-1000 and REV7, there's really no room in the case for the power supply. It doesn't fit in my REV7 flight case, as the FLX10 is not wide enough and too long.
-The Magvel Fader is fine, it's set to about where my DJM-S7 Magvel Pro is when it's at 1:00. That's a lot more tension than I prefer after spending time with the Magvel Pro as I work on my scratching skills.
-Summary: This is clearly the successor to the DDJ-1000, but it's hard to call it a must-have upgrade; I think it's more a logical update. The improved jogs/displays and the stems buttons are the primary improvements that I've encountered. (I'm not too interested in the improved phono preamps because I use Phase for vinyl).
It doesn't rewrite the controller game and thus I really can't recommend someone sell their DDJ-1000/SRT and move to the FLX10 if just an "upgrade" is what you're really looking for - Pioneer could easily have called this the DDJ-1000 Mk2 or DDJ-1000NXS3. If you have a 1000 and are thirsting for a "next-level" I'd recommend keeping your 1000 and adding a REV7 or saving up for an Opus Quad or XZ.
I'm not slagging the FLX10 - it easily joins the REV7 and Rane Four as the best DJ controllers you can buy, and being the only one that is club-standard in layout makes it perhaps the best for many people (I do love me some paddles tho!). The jog/display and stem improvements are welcome and definite improvements, and Pioneer is gonna sell a ton of these.
I plan on using it live at a casino on Thursday for a short set I'm doing between one of my live bands. I haven't encountered any glitches yet so I'm hoping it's gig-ready.
TLDR; FLX10 is a worthy update to the DDJ-1000/SRT, with some nice QoL upgrades, but most 1000/SRT owner's shouldn't feel like they're being left behind.

2023.03.29 22:10 autotldr Lesotho lawmakers to debate reclaiming parts of South Africa
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 39%. (I'm a bot)
Lawmakers in Lesotho are to discuss on Wednesday whether the country should seek to reclaim large swaths of land from powerful neighbour South Africa.
A motion put forward by an opposition MP is aiming to have the parliament declare South Africa's entire Free State province, which borders Lesotho, as well as areas of four more regions as part of the small mountain kingdom.
The disputed regions were historically inhabited by the Basothos, a people from southern Africa's Bantu ethnic group, who represent a large majority in Lesotho.
The motion is based on a 1962 United Nations resolution that recognised the right to self-determination and independence for the people of Basutoland - as Lesotho was then called.
Lipholo is the sole BCM lawmaker in Lesotho's 120-seat National Assembly.
The economy of Lesotho - home to two million people - largely depends on that of South Africa - with a population of 60 million - which entirely surrounds it.

2023.03.29 22:08 KyleKKent Out of Cruel Space, Part 638
First The Dauntless
The final little session of today’s council meeting was going through. It again wasn’t a topic that The Undaunted were tied to, but it was an important one regardless. Trading rights and franchises of large corporations. There are several different representatives from numerous companies pleading their cases to be allowed to trade and sell in more parts of the galaxy. But some entire sections of the galaxy were closed off to specific companies due to labour practices and products sold.
Sometimes the reason was religious. Certain foods were considered tainted or easily tainted by other products. Products that were often used to package and preserve foodstuffs or just items in general. It was as if a major religion had issues with plastic. Frustrating as all hell for most major corporations and something they kept arguing against.
It’s more akin to a regular floor show than a serious proposition. No one on the council is willing to budge, going against your constituents in such a way is political suicide, and the corporations are less using this to try to convince people that won’t move so much as advertise their brands to those that are more willing.
The few times the corporations ignored these restrictions they found the local area to be a massive dearth of customers anyways. So the whole point of all this was a performance art to advertise. Which while interesting could almost be pushed aside. Almost, but not quite.
It turns out not letting the corporations have their floor show tends to cause enormous problems. There are ways to seriously kick up a massive stink in congress and force an appearance by any organization large enough. There’s a knock at his door. It’s opened behind him but he doesn’t turn to look.
“Hello? Who are you?” Private Stream asks curiously.
“Uh... it... who are you?” The woman at the door returns.
“Hey no fair! I asked you first!” Private Stream protests and Admiral Cistern slowly turns with amusement to regard whatever may be happening. Private Stream is in an argument with a Horchka woman that has crouched down to regard him. She’s still taller than he is even though she’s crouched down so low she’s almost sitting on the floor.
She looks up and sees him regarding her and she starts to stand up. “Excuse me, Admiral Cistern... I...”
“Am speaking with me now ma’am.” Private Stream interrupts.
“Thank you Private Stream, but I don’t think she’s the type that needs a confusion game.” Admiral Cistern says. “She did knock politely after all.”
“Yes sir, but I didn’t get her name yet.” Private Stream complains in a whining tone that gets a very odd look from the Horchka even as he steps out of her way.
“I’m Hachia Strongstrides. I’m just here to set up a meeting.” She explains as she takes three steps into the small booth and is still well out of sight from others. “My employer prefers to trust runners or in person meetings when she’s on the same planet as someone rather than holocommunications or videocalls.”
“I see Miss Strongstrides. I generally have a rather full schedule with doctor mandated breaks to avoid burnout. Private Stream, find an opening if you can.”
“Already on it sir!” The Private chirps as he has his communicator out and is browsing through it.
“Very good, might I ask about the nature of the meeting? I’m going assume it’s not just for some random pleasantries.” Admiral Cistern asks and Strongstrides nods.
“My employer is Jarichah Greatblade. She’s predictably the owner and founder of Greatblade Productions. We craft all forms of melee weapons and are interested in creating copies and recreations of human sword designs of all types for sale. She’d like to talk about patent prices and protections and such. I don’t know the details myself, I’m just the messenger girl.” Strongstrides explains and Admiral Cistern nods.
Then Private Stream nods as he looks up.
“We’ve got time at Four Twenty tomorrow sir! It’s twenty five minutes long.” Private Stream calls out.
“Will your employer be comfortable meeting on The Dauntless?” Admiral Cistern asks.
“She will be fine with that sir. Thank you for your time.” Strongstrides say she then offers a slight bow. “By your leave.”
“By all means madam, have a wonderful day.” Admiral Cistern bids her and she departs. When the door closes again Private Stream immediately starts looking around the room before pulling out a scanner and sweeping the whole area.
“No bugs sir.”
“Very good. Now, what more do we have about Greatblade Productions?” He asks and Private Stream holds up his communicator. It projects a holographic image of a general overview of Greatblade Productions. There’s a quickly scrolling list of planets they have offices on. Another scrolling list of products and a summarization of controversies in the past and their net worth. Which is just shy of several trillion credits per quarter.
“I see... so they’ve gotten into patent trouble in the past. That explains why they’re playing nice now.” Admiral Cistern notes. “What do we have about Miss Greatblade?”
Private Stream quickly fiddles with the communicator and brings up a second projection. It shows a general readout of the woman that Private Stream reads out loud from his side. “A hundred and seventy six years old. Born and raised on a migratory trade fleet. Two hundred and thirty centimetres tall. Twenty stone in weight. Most of it muscle. Numerous arrests for violent conduct as a teenager and she tried to runaway from home as a child by hijacking a shuttle. Three failed marriages. Currently in a happy fourth marriage with a total of six children to her name. Two sons, four daughters and apparently another three wards that she’s raised.”
“I see, what’s this note on her religion. Hochka Spiritualism?”
“It’s an old faith that’s more a fad than a proper religion now. Like witches on Earth. They apparently think that all issues are enemies to fight in some way and that as you solve a problem you kill the spirit of the conflict. But sometimes solving it isn’t enough so you need to have a knife ready in order to fight it off and if you absolutely have to, cut out it’s heart and eat it.” Private stream relays from what his handler is telling him.
“Interesting, what significance does eating the heart have in their culture?” Admiral Cistern asks and Private Stream waits for his handler to look it up.
“Absolute dominance sir. Becoming stronger is poetically referred to as eating the heart of weakness in a lot of popular culture. Same for healing and learning is called eating the heart of ignorance. If you eat a spirit’s heart then you’re immune to it’s power. So followers of the old belief always have a knife in case death comes and they have a chance to become immortal by eating it’s heart.” Private Stream relays.
“And it’s more of a fashion choice?”
“Yes sir... My handler Mister Zero would like to personally add that he’s had interactions with Horchka on his private time and can confirm that this comes up in casual conversation. He also adds that while they tend to finger their knives while thinking he’s never seen one drawn yet, even when a girl is really angry.”
“I see. Thank you Mister Zero for your assistance. And thank you Private Stream for yours. You may return to your normal duties.” Admiral Cistern says and receives a crisp salute rather than an overeager one.
So, both an opportunity to make money and get some better melee weaponry has reared it’s head. The processes of actually created more advanced weapons melee weapons is very time consuming to set up.
They ARE setting it up but in general most knives are only being enhanced through Axiom effects or totems being applied to the weapons. Something with a bit more bite on it’s own would be useful. A knife imbued to project an extension of it’s blade is scary, but it stands out like a flare when you’re sensing Axiom. A blade that’s been designed to shred through things from the molecular scale upwards is much more dangerous and it’s much harder to detect.
Which means he needs to get three of each for every person in his intelligence division. A stiletto is a useful tool. A mono-serrated stiletto is terrifying.
To say nothing of other potential melee options.
Still, he can’t dwell like an eager shopper for long. The little advertising campaign that is the futile debates is wrapping up and things are moving. Moving to a topic that he was... unhappy with. There are numerous political entities outside The Council by choice. The galaxy is a GIGANTIC place and to be frank Admiral Cistern can fully respect that someone would want to opt out of all this.
There are many councillors that disagree with him. That the Galactic Council should be the WHOLE galaxy and there be no exceptions.
Thankfully Admiral Cistern is FAR from the only person who dislikes the very topic and the arguments against forceful integration of the ‘rogue elements’ are both swift and numerous. One of the popular arguments for the integration is that those places are security risks to their neighbours and they should compensate the rest of the galaxy with taxes. The argument against that is that the security risk is mutual and they’re not making any plans on compensated the independent states for that.
Then things go sideways as someone brings up potential actual compensation for the independent states and how that may be used as a way to peacefully integrate them. It’s far less egregious a suggestion but then that of course leads into who will fund it.
That kicks off a minor shitstorm as no one wants to reach into their budgets and actually do something. Oh sure, they all want to look good and be seen as upright and moralistic individuals. But in the end few if any of them have the wherewithal to risk of themselves for another.
Admiral Cistern makes a note of a few named systems. It will be important later. After all, independent and intelligent people make excellent recruits.
Things wrap up as they usually do with everything powering down and Lady Ticanped strutting into the centre of the main chamber. “Honoured Councillors of our Galactic Society! I’m afraid that is all the time we have for this day of debate and discourse! We have all served our peoples to the fullest of our abilities and let none dare dispute otherwise! We now separate from one another in order to handle the personal affairs of our people, but let there be no doubts that we will once more come together in order to ensure that our peoples can work together in the future as we do now!”
With a final flourish of her fan Lady Ticanped gives a slight bow like an actor after a theatre performance and then struts away.
“Well that’s that then. Not much accomplished, but a fair amount was deflected and dealt with.”
“Sir, I expected more confrontations sir.” Private Stream states as he walks up next to him even as Admiral Cistern rises up.
“After I solved the confrontations earlier any other detractors likely reconsidered. One or two attack a session is just a coincidence. Three or more piling on on the same day looks like coordinated attack to bully someone into submission. Even if it’s successful, it’s not a good look. And they weren’t getting successful jabs in.”
“Hmm... Optics certainly play a large part.” Private Stream notes.
“Oh yes. It’s extremely important in politics and tactics both. Of course, you need to learn how to tell when things are just appearances and not actually the way they’re presented as.”
“As you say sir.” Private Stream states and Admiral Cistern walks through the room and the door opens in front of him with Private Stream on his heels.
“Darling!” Lady Ticanped calls out as he exits his own small room and he smiles at the sight of here. “I’m glad I was able to catch you. We do have some plans tonight.”
“And after such a long day we’re all going to need something to take the edge off.” Admiral Cistern replies as she flutters close to him.
“Oh indeed my darling. Indeed.”
“Do remember sir, you have appointments tomorrow. Try not to have too much fun.” Private Stream ‘reminds’ him.
“Am I going to have to remind every Stream that they can be written up or have their pay docked?” Admiral Cistern asks as Lady Ticanped giggles softly.
“But sir! You wanted us sassy and outspoken sir!” Private Stream protests and Admiral Cistern gives out a theatrical sigh even as Lady Ticanped giggles even harder.

2023.03.29 22:06 Dismal-Jellyfish SEC Alert! Chair Gary Gensler: "I am pleased to support the President’s FY 2024 request of $2.436 billion for the SEC, to put us on a better track for the future" "FY 2023 funding for the first time brought the agency’s staffing back above where we were seven years ago."
| Source: https://www.sec.gov/news/testimony/gensler-testimony-subcommittee-financial-services-and-general-government-032923 Highlights: Full-time equivalents (FTEs) at the SEC and in individual Divisions. Overall SEC FTEs include all Offices and Divisions. - The SEC’s funding is deficit-neutral; appropriations are offset by transaction fees.
- FY 2024 request of $2.436 billion for the SEC.
- FY 2023 funding for the first time brought the agency’s staffing back above where it was seven years ago.
- The SEC now is approximately three percent larger than it was in FY 2016.
- In FY 2023, the number of positions funded by Congress was 5,303, a much-needed increase of 400.
- The FY 2024 request seeks funding for an additional 170 positions, as well as full-year funding for those staff hired in FY 2023.
- Considering full-time equivalents (FTEs)—or actual time worked—the FY 2024 request would support 5,139 FTEs.
- The SEC has 30 Divisions and Offices across our 11 regional locations and Washington, D.C., headquarters.
Enforcement and Examinations: The Divisions of Enforcement and Examinations account for about half of the SEC’s staff. Without examination of compliance with and enforcement of our rules and laws, we can’t instill the trust necessary for our markets to thrive. Stamping out fraud, manipulation, and abuse lowers risk in the system. It protects investors and reduces the cost of capital. Division of Enforcement - The SEC received more than 35,000 separate tips, complaints, and referrals from whistleblowers and others in FY 2022 (more than double FY 2016).
- During the same period, the Division shrank five percent.
- The Division brought more than 750 enforcement actions in FY 2022, a nine percent increase over the prior year.
- Resulted in orders for $6.4 billion in penalties and disgorgement.
- This year’s request would grow the team and get the Division to just four percent more than it was in FY 2016.
Division of Examinations - Conducted more than 3,000 examinations across our tens of thousands of registrants, from investment advisers to broker-dealers to exchanges.
- Registered investment advisers grew by 22 percent—to about 15,000, up from approximately 12,500 in 2017.
- During the same period, the number of private funds increased by 50 percent to approximately 50,000.
- FY 2024 request would help the Division grow to 1,144 FTEs, allowing it to keep pace with the market challenges of the last decade.
Programmatic Divisions: Corporation Finance - During the last three years, the number of reporting companies the Division oversees has increased by 18 percent to 7,836, primarily due to initial public offerings.
- Merger activity has more than tripled 2020 levels in the last two fiscal years.
- Division’s staff is still approximately 17 percent below FY 2016.
- Today’s budget request would grow the team to 454 FTEs.
- With this increase, the Division still would be five percent smaller than it was in FY 2016.
Investment Management - Oversees more than 30,000 registered entities, including approximately 16,000 registered funds and 15,000 investment advisers.
- The assets managed just by private funds, now at approximately $25 trillion in gross assets, have surpassed the size of the entire U.S. commercial banking industry of approximately $23 trillion.
- The combined assets managed by registered investment companies, private funds, and separately managed accounts the Division oversees has surpassed $100 trillion.
- Asked for funding to support 238 FTEs.
Trading and Markets - Division oversees more than 3,500 broker-dealers, 24 national securities exchanges, 99 alternative trading systems, 50 securities-based swap dealers, and seven active registered clearing agencies, among other entities.
- Division is responding to an increasing number of public inquiries, up by more than 67 percent since FY 2019 to approximately 20,000 inquiries in FY 2022.
- Requested 309 FTEs.
Economic Risk and Analysis - The Division of Economic and Risk Analysis supports the Commission in every role, whether it’s enforcement or examinations, monitoring the markets, or rulemaking.
- In the Enforcement context, the Division’s staff is instrumental in identifying potential wrongdoing, assessing ill-gotten gains, and working to return funds to harmed investors.
- Analyses are included in proposing releases that are put out for public comment, and staff throughout the agency actively engages with the public to receive input, including on the economic analyses.
- Requested 198 FTEs.
Additional Matters Technology - Requested $393 million to support the Commission’s data analysis, cybersecurity, and other IT needs.
- This request assumes full use of an additional $50 million from the SEC Reserve Fund for multi-year IT projects and programs.
- To put these figures in context, this spending is dwarfed by what some of the biggest market participants spend in a month on technology.
Real Estate - The SEC has offices in Washington, D.C., and 11 other places.
- The total cost in FY 2023 was five percent of budget.
- Preparing to vacate one of three headquarters buildings in Washington, D.C., by the end of this fiscal year, resulting in a reduction of 210,000 square feet of space and approximately $14 million per year in savings.
TLDRS: "There has been dynamic change in communications to and among investors, from Reddit forums" The President’s FY 2024 request of $2.436 billion for the SEC is supported by Gary Gensler, with the SEC just now seeing headcount at numbers not seen since 2016. https://preview.redd.it/bnwvsugviqqa1.png?width=610&format=png&auto=webp&s=59aaf7b6980fa45599f434c72869deb7494277a3 Full remarks: Good afternoon, Chair Womack, Ranking Member Hoyer, and members of the Subcommittee. Thank you for inviting me to testify today on the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 budget request. As is customary, I’d like to note that my views are my own, and I am not speaking on behalf of my fellow Commissioners or the SEC staff. Protecting the Public for 90 Years The SEC is critical to the American public. For 90 years, the federal securities laws—and our work to oversee them—have played a crucial role in good times and in times of stress. These laws, the first of which was enacted in 1933, benefit investors, issuers ranging from startups to multinational corporations, and the markets in the middle. The core principles of U.S. securities markets regulation have contributed to America’s economic success and geopolitical standing around the globe. This agency’s clients are the 330 million Americans, your constituents who invest in their 401(k)s and IRAs, trade through brokerage apps, take out mortgage or auto loans, or use robo-advisers. They’re also Americans accessing the capital markets to fund their businesses from small to large, their new ideas and innovations. We oversee broker-dealers, stock exchanges, clearinghouses, mutual funds, asset managers, and public company issuers, among other participants in our financial markets. It’s for the investing public and issuers that our staff must continue to drive efficiencies, help protect for financial stability, and modernize our rulesets for today’s $100 trillion capital markets as well as today’s technologies, in a manner consistent with our Congressional authorities. Growth and Change in the Markets We’ve seen tremendous growth and change in our markets. More people than ever are participating—trading and using tools and technologies that were unavailable even a few years ago. For example, from 2017 to 2022, the number of clients of registered investment advisers grew 60 percent from 34 million to 53 million. During that same period, average daily trading in the equity markets more than doubled from more than 30 million transactions to more than 77 million. Technology is rapidly transforming our markets and business models. These changes range from electronic trading and the cloud to artificial intelligence and predictive data analytics, just to name a few. There has been dynamic change in communications to and among investors, from Reddit forums to celebrity influencers. Further, we’ve seen the Wild West of the crypto markets, rife with noncompliance, where investors have put hard-earned assets at risk in a highly speculative asset class. Such growth and rapid change also means more possibility for wrongdoing. As the cop on the beat, we must be able to meet the match of bad actors. Thus, it makes sense for the SEC to grow along with the expansion and increased complexity in the capital markets. I am proud of this agency. I am proud of our dedicated staff. It has done remarkable work with limited resources. With funding to meet the scale of our mission, we can be an even stronger advocate for the American public—investors and issuers alike. Further, while recent market volatility raises many important issues for policymakers and the American public, it is also a reminder of the SEC’s need to be adequately resourced. Budget Request I am pleased to support the President’s FY 2024 request of $2.436 billion for the SEC, to put us on a better track for the future. To put this in context, with this committee’s help, FY 2023 funding for the first time brought the agency’s staffing back above where we were seven years ago. The SEC now is approximately three percent larger than it was in FY 2016. Meanwhile, the demands on our talented staff have grown dramatically. The agency’s oversight function is vast. In addition to the approximately 40,000 entities I mentioned above, we oversee credit rating agencies, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board, the Securities Investor Protection Corporation, and the Financial Accounting Standards Board. In FY 2023, the number of positions funded by Congress was 5,303, a much-needed increase of 400. We’re now in the process of filling those positions. The FY 2024 request seeks funding for an additional 170 positions, as well as full-year funding for those staff hired in FY 2023. Considering full-time equivalents (FTEs)—or actual time worked—the FY 2024 request would support 5,139 FTEs. As this committee considers its work, it’s worth noting the SEC’s funding is deficit-neutral; appropriations are offset by transaction fees. The SEC has 30 Divisions and Offices across our 11 regional locations and Washington, D.C., headquarters. I’m summarizing below the budget requests for our six Divisions and will briefly touch on technology and real estate. For further details as well as a review of the other offices of the SEC, please reference the FY 2024 Congressional Budget Justification. Enforcement and Examinations The Divisions of Enforcement and Examinations account for about half of the SEC’s staff. Without examination of compliance with and enforcement of our rules and laws, we can’t instill the trust necessary for our markets to thrive. Stamping out fraud, manipulation, and abuse lowers risk in the system. It protects investors and reduces the cost of capital. The whole economy benefits from that. Division of Enforcement The SEC received more than 35,000 separate tips, complaints, and referrals from whistleblowers and others in FY 2022. To give context, this is more than double the number we received in FY 2016. During the same period, the Division shrank five percent. Even with limited resources, the Division brought more than 750 enforcement actions in FY 2022, a nine percent increase over the prior year. Our actions resulted in orders for $6.4 billion in penalties and disgorgement. Meanwhile, rapid technological innovation in the financial markets has led to misconduct in emerging and new areas, not least in the crypto space. Addressing this requires new tools, expertise, and resources. The additional staff will provide the Division with more capacity to meet these challenges, investigate misconduct on a larger scale, and accelerate the pace of enforcement investigations to resolution. This year’s request would grow the team and get the Division to just four percent more than it was in FY 2016. Division of Examinations The Division of Examinations serves on the front lines to help ensure firms comply with the law. In FY 2022, we conducted more than 3,000 examinations across our tens of thousands of registrants, from investment advisers to broker-dealers to exchanges, to ensure they are following their legal obligations to customers, including seniors and other vulnerable investors. Importantly, the Division is the first line of defense for the investing public relying on investment advisers. Meanwhile, their numbers have grown significantly in the last five years. Registered investment advisers grew by 22 percent—to about 15,000, up from approximately 12,500 in 2017. During the same period, the number of private funds increased by 50 percent to approximately 50,000. This stretches thin the limited resources of the Division. Further, we work in parallel with self-regulatory organizations to examine registered broker-dealers; in each of the last five years, we jointly examined nearly half of them—even as the number of daily transactions in the equity markets more than doubled. Our FY 2024 request would help the Division grow to 1,144 FTEs, allowing it to keep pace with the market challenges of the last decade. The majority of this increase relates to full-year funding for those staff positions authorized and hired in FY 2023. These additional resources would strengthen the Division’s ability to protect American families by addressing risks in the crypto markets, cyber and information security, and the resiliency of critical market infrastructure. Programmatic Divisions Next, I will turn to our three programmatic Divisions. Corporation Finance The Division of Corporation Finance oversees the disclosures of public companies so that investors can make informed investment decisions. It’s important for investors to receive useful, timely, and accurate disclosure. During the last three years alone, the number of reporting companies the Division oversees has increased by 18 percent to 7,836, primarily due to initial public offerings. In addition, merger activity has more than tripled 2020 levels in the last two fiscal years. In contrast, the Division’s staff is still approximately 17 percent below FY 2016. Today’s budget request would grow the team to 454 FTEs. With this increase, the Division still would be five percent smaller than it was in FY 2016. Nonetheless, additional resources would allow the Division to serve investors more ably as markets grow and evolve. Investment Management The Division of Investment Management oversees the funds and advisers that steward nest eggs for millions of American investors. It oversees more than 30,000 registered entities, including approximately 16,000 registered funds and 15,000 investment advisers. As discussed earlier, we’ve seen significant growth in the number of investment advisers and private funds. Further, the assets managed just by private funds, now at approximately $25 trillion in gross assets, have surpassed the size of the entire U.S. commercial banking industry of approximately $23 trillion. Overall, the combined assets managed by registered investment companies, private funds, and separately managed accounts the Division oversees has surpassed $100 trillion. Given this growth in the markets, we’ve asked for funding to support 238 FTEs. Trading and Markets The Division of Trading and Markets serves on the front line for maintaining fair, orderly, and efficient markets. Market monitoring and supervision are essential parts of the Division’s activity—especially during times of market stress. The markets and the market participants we oversee represent a significant and growing number of market transactions as well as volume of trades. The Division oversees more than 3,500 broker-dealers, 24 national securities exchanges, 99 alternative trading systems, 50 securities-based swap dealers, and seven active registered clearing agencies, among other entities. Further, the Division is responding to an increasing number of public inquiries, up by more than 67 percent since FY 2019 to approximately 20,000 inquiries in FY 2022. In FY 2024, we’ve requested 309 FTEs to support this important function of the Commission. Economic Risk and Analysis Economic analysis is critical to all of the agency’s work. The Division of Economic and Risk Analysis supports the Commission in every role, whether it’s enforcement or examinations, monitoring the markets, or rulemaking. In the Enforcement context, the Division’s staff is instrumental in identifying potential wrongdoing, assessing ill-gotten gains, and working to return funds to harmed investors. The Division’s economists are involved in every aspect of the agency’s rulemaking.Proposing and adopting releases include economic analyses related to efficiency, competition, and capital formation. Those analyses are included in proposing releases that are put out for public comment, and staff throughout the agency actively engages with the public to receive input, including on the economic analyses. FY 2023 has gotten us to modestly above where we were in 2016 for FTEs. Given the critical nature of the Division’s work, though, for FY 2024, we’ve asked for funding to support 198 FTEs. Additional Matters Technology We live in transformational times. The amount of data analysis that the SEC processes in the Division of Enforcement alone has grown 20 percent year over year for the last three years. Cyber threats have placed our financial sector on high alert. As technologies evolve, it is important that the SEC’s information technologies follow suit. Thus, we have requested $393 million to support the Commission’s data analysis, cybersecurity, and other IT needs. This request assumes full use of an additional $50 million from the SEC Reserve Fund for multi-year IT projects and programs. To put these figures in context, this spending is dwarfed by what some of the biggest market participants spend in a month on technology. Real Estate Another important part of our budget is for offices and leases. We have offices in Washington, D.C., and 11 other places. The total cost in FY 2023 was five percent of our budget. Over the years, we’ve worked with the General Services Administration (GSA) to rightsize our leasing footprint. In the last nine years, we have shed 140,000 rentable square feet across our facilities. We are in the process of shedding another 30,000 rentable square feet in our San Francisco and Fort Worth regional offices. Further, we are preparing to vacate one of our three headquarters buildings in Washington, D.C., by the end of this fiscal year, resulting in a reduction of 210,000 square feet of space and approximately $14 million per year in savings. With the finalization of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, we look forward to reassessing our facility needs and working with GSA on efforts to relinquish additional space it deems marketable in the coming years. Conclusion Nearly two years into this role, I am grateful to work alongside this remarkable staff and my fellow Commissioners to help maintain America’s capital markets—the best in the world. We can’t take our leadership in capital markets for granted, though. The SEC is working hard day in and day out to keep pace with the dramatic growth and change in the markets. This FY 2024 budget request would give the agency resources to better protect the American public. I thank the Committee for providing me the opportunity to summarize this budget request. I am pleased to take your questions. submitted by Dismal-Jellyfish to Superstonk [link] [comments] |
2023.03.29 22:04 L3G4L_4SS4SSIN Financial Times Article Thoughts?
Recently the Financial Times wrote an article on Glasgow and the neglect of the buildings, culture and city in general.
Have a read and share your thoughts:
The demolition of Glasgow’s architectural swagger
With buildings either being blown up or neglected, how can the city centre be preserved?
Back in 1998, on what you might call the eve of Scottish devolution, I was working in Glasgow on a year-long festival of architecture and design. From the windows of my 10th-floor office, I could look out over a swaggering 19th-century metropolis of grandiloquent stone architecture, built to a North American grid plan, that was once home to more than 1mn people.
The city felt then like an international model for culture-led renewal. Fact-finding delegations were constantly touring the streets, looking for lessons to apply at home. A garden festival and Glasgow’s status as European Capital of Culture had made a real difference to the way the world saw it, and how it saw itself: confident in its status as Scotland’s world city.
It feels different now: like a city unsure about what to do with its history — and still worryingly addicted to blowing up bits of itself.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s former Glasgow Herald building, carefully restored as the Lighthouse, Scotland’s Centre for Architecture and Design, closed at the start of the pandemic and is yet to reopen. Five years after the shocking destruction of the fire that tore through Mackintosh’s masterpiece, the art school that produced eight Turner Prize winners is still a blackened ruin. The facade has been propped up by a giant scaffolding pincushion while the school works out how best to rebuild it for the second time since a first fire in 2014.
Glasgow’s other great architect, Alexander “Greek” Thomson, is in no better shape. His once magnificent Egyptian Halls on Union Street sprouts shrubs from its decayed facade, which festers behind a giant advertising hoarding. The Buchanan Galleries, a hulking stone-faced 10-acre shopping centre, opened only in 1999, is slated for demolition.
Every city has had to deal with the rise of the digital economy and the impact of increased homeworking. But Glasgow has an additional problem: a decisive shift in the balance of power and prestige between itself and Edinburgh — an unintended result of the decision to re-establish Scotland’s parliament 25 years ago.
Since then, the number of people living in the capital has increased 25 per cent; Glasgow’s population is down to around 630,000. There are another million people who live in the hinterland beyond the city’s boundaries, but since the Strathclyde regional administration was abolished in the run-up to devolution, the political muscle and tax income that came from those numbers has gone.
Here’s another measure: for decades, Glasgow had been home to Scotland’s busiest airport. Edinburgh surpassed it in 2007 and today it is the international gateway by some margin: some 15mn passengers passed through its airport in 2019, compared with 9mn in Glasgow.
Glasgow might succeed in holding back the erosion of its centre, but it can’t entirely reverse it. As one vacant building comes back to life, it seems, another is threatened.
The 18th-century Sheriff Court was rescued from decades of neglect when it became the home of the Scottish Youth Theatre in 2006, but last year Marks and Spencer pulled out of its Sauchiehall Street building, which the new owners are planning to demolish. The massive Victorian General Post Office on George Square has found a new life and the old cheese market on Albion Street has been turned into a restaurant.
But Rogano, the historic Art Deco oyster bar — which, according to legend, is equipped with carpets and fittings smuggled out of the Clydebank shipyard that launched the Queen Mary — hasn’t reopened since the pandemic.
In fact, dynamite has become an essential part of Glasgow’s urban agenda. In the past 20 years, the Wheatley Group, part charity, part social enterprise and part commercial entity, has blown up thousands of the 81,000 homes given to it by Glasgow City Council in 2003 — a video montage on its website proudly edits together some of its biggest bangs.
After the revulsion at Wheatley’s plans to televise the explosive demolition of eight Red Road high-rises as part of the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in 2014, it is no longer considered acceptable to celebrate destroying such properties. But Wheatley is pressing on with plans to demolish four more high-rises in Maryhill. Protesters call it a profligate waste of resources that runs counter to the city’s sustainability rhetoric.
Along with the Buchanan Galleries, Glasgow is planning to demolish the St Enoch mall, at the other end of Buchanan Street, the hinge around which Glasgow’s centre works.
Both redevelopments are based on a new orthodoxy: covered malls are a thing of the past; old-style streets are the future. It’s a bold view to take in Glasgow, where it’s dark by 3.30 on a winter afternoon and rain is a fact of life all year. Norman Foster’s ambitious plan for the Buchanan Galleries envisages less shopping, demolishing a 2,000-space car park and creating more office space, some housing and a concrete raft over the tracks into Queen Street station to repair the rupture in Glasgow’s street grid.
If you pick a spot carefully today, say the corner of Ingram Street and Queen Street, where my office used to be, you will see Glasgow swagger. When I was there last Christmas, I saw a terracotta-coloured Ferrari cruise past a group of well-groomed Glaswegians from the affluent west end who were up in town, perhaps, to buy their children a new Burberry for Kids outfit, then drop in for a cocktail at a Korean-themed bar.
Look the other way and you see another Glasgow, the one with street sleepers on Argyle Street and the boarded-up shopfronts stretching down to the Clyde.
Glasgow is governed from the City Chambers, a building grand enough from which to run an empire. The Greens hold the balance of power, supporting a minority SNP administration. They have appointed a city urbanist, which suggests a welcome awareness of the issues the city faces, and are embarking on a public consultation to steer a strategy for its future.
Finding an effective way to reconnect the city politically and economically with its hinterland, where so many former Glaswegians now live, would be the best place to start.

2023.03.29 22:00 StepwiseUndrape574 4Chan Leak Allegedly Exposes GTA 6 Lead Characters And Key Map Details
A pair of leaks have turned up on 4Chan that claim to outline details of Rockstar's forthcoming Grand Theft Auto 6. Fans of the franchise would do well to take these rumors with a grain of salt as there's no way to know for sure if any of these details are accurate. The leaker on 4Chan goes by Rhanadeng and claims to have been a friend of a disgruntled employee working on the game during 2019.
The source claims that this employee allegedly asked him to anonymously leak information about GTA 6. However, things later improved, and he lost contact with the Rockstar team member. One key detail is that this person also claims the game has been in active development since 2016 or 2017, with pre-production starting shortly after GTA V was ported to current generation consoles in 2014. The new GTA VI game world map is also claimed to be the size of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.
gta v mission One of the odder bits that this 4Chan user details is a minigame where players control a stream of urine from a protagonist using motion controls. On the protagonist front, there are said to be four in the game, including a driver called Walther Wallace and an unnamed former Israeli IDF person. Another, Thomas Branigan, is a smuggler who owns an aircraft called the Raven, and Marcus Burke is a drug dealer and father to a young boy.
The area is said to be based in Florida, with Vice City among the three major cities with one smaller city in the far northwest of the map. The game reportedly jumps around in time with part of the timeline set in the 1980s and other parts set in the present day. Missions aren't as linear as they are in GTA V or RDR2, notes the proclaimed leaker. Players will briefly visit a small central American island, but it's reportedly not Guarma. The game starts with gamers playing the role of smuggler, Branigan.
gta v car Supposedly there are multiple child characters in the game that mainly interact with Burke and his son. Switching between the protagonists isn't said to be instantaneous, but the camera reportedly zooms out and travels quickly to where the protagonist the player wants to play is located. Sleeping Dogs-inspired parkour is involved in the game as well, but to a lesser extent without wall running. The leaker claims that weapons function more realistically in the game than they have in past titles. An example noted is rocket launcher back blast that ends up taking out an NPC in one of the missions, where the goal is to destroy a helicopter.
Hand-to-hand combat is supported and is said to be similar to Red Dead 2, with the leaker noting it's harder to fight hand-to-hand GTA VI than in GTA V. Player characters can also gain weight in the game, and it affects character attributes as it did in RDR2. Mori Kibbutz is also reportedly in the game, but not much else is detailed about his character.
This leak isn't the first that has surfaced about GTA 6. Last December, a user on reddit claiming to be a beta tester, leaked a bunch of alleged details of the game. In January, another leak claimed that the game would launch in 2021.

2023.03.29 21:59 StepwiseUndrape574 A few questions before buying a mod menu
Hi, i've been thinking about getting a menu and I found Stand Regular. It's at the top of what I'm willing to pay but seems worth the money.
But I wanted to ask a few things from people who have some experience modding:
1.Is that a good choice? I don't need some options, mostly just making money(from missions, not by adding artificially) crash protections, teleport and other quality of life changes, i wouldn't be needing any griefing tools or anything that interferes with other players.
2.I understand it's an internal menu, running as part of the game. How can it avoid detection by Rockstar Launcher checking the game files? Won't it get me banned for just being there?
3.Is the site I'm looking at, stand.gg, legit?
4.Is there a way to see when a Rockstar employee is spectating me? As far as I know you can get banned by auto detection of cheated money/cars, by getting reported for cheating in a public session, or by an admin who decides to take a look at what you're doing and witnesses you cheating. Can the menu prevent or warn me about the last one?
5.Are menus like Stand fun to use for someone not amused by griefing and aimbotting? As in, are there some fun things to do not designed to ruin the fun of others?
Sorry if the questions are dumb, but I've only ever used Menyoo for singleplayer and Modest Menu before for a while so I don't know much about mods, and I don't want to waste money by rushing it. Any answers and opinions are appreciated, thanks!

2023.03.29 21:55 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Could Gain This Next-Gen Intelligent NPC Technology From Rockstar
A newly discovered patent by Take-Two Interactive hints that Grand Theft Auto VI will have smarter non-playable characters (NPCs), which has our minds swirling with possibilities. Rather than following programmed directives, NPCs that leverage advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities could potentially feel like more life-like, in the decisions they make in the game.
We might be getting ahead of ourselves a bit—we have no idea what exactly Take-Two and its Rockstar Games subsidiary have planned for the next GTA installment, and to be clear, GTA VI has not been announced—but we would certainly welcome smarter NPCs. Not just for the GTA series, but for gaming in general.
The patent (listed as 16/393365) was filed in October of last year, by inventors David Hynd and Simon Parr. According to their LinkedIn profiles, both work for Rockstar Games—Hynd is the associate director of technology and technical director of AI and gameplay, while Parr is the lead AI and gameplay programmer. So even though Take-Two Interactive owns the patent, it seems the technology is destined for a Rocktar Games title.
"Computer games often provide 3D worlds in which the game unfolds. Such games often include non-player characters (NPCs) that exist in the game's 3D world and who interact with the human players, the 3D environment and other NPCs. These NPCs can be programmed in an artificial intelligence manor such that their actions in the game are driven, at least in part, by real-time decisions made by the NPC algorithm regarding the current state of the game and the environment," the patent explains.
It goes on to state that this type of interaction is driven by a collection of nodes and edges (vehicles and links), and that "conventional systems only provide limited resources" for developers. As it applies to the GTA franchises, this is likely why NPCs all seem to drive and navigate the world in the same manner, with only visual cues distinguishing them from one another.
"Since currently-available multiplayer gaming systems are deficient because they cannot provide realistic movements for non-player objects in a virtual world without increasing computational resources and/or restricting game development/design, a system for managing nodes and node graphs relating to non-player characters that provides virtual navigation and management can prove desirable and provide a basis for a wide range of network applications, such as creating a realistic virtual world that is not limited by hardware and software limitations," the patent states.
Part of the patent involves tapping into the cloud to overcome local hardware capabilities, for advanced AI processing. And from our reading, it sounds like the patent would result in NPCs have more individualized personalities, at least with regards to traveling about.
We'll have to wait and see what develops, and hopefully Rockstar Games sees fit to announce a new GTA game soon.

2023.03.29 21:52 StepwiseUndrape574 Alledged GTA 6 Beta Tester Dishes A Ton Of Details In Latest Leak
Time sure flies, doesn't it? We are about to ring in a brand new year, and as we do so, the release of Grand Theft Auto V is now more than six years old (and is fast approaching five years on PC). Given the time that has elapsed, it is certainly possible (maybe even plausible) that Rockstar Games is deep in development on Grand Theft Auto VI. To that end, a supposed QA tester claims to have the skinny on the next installment.
We should preface this information with a disclaimer. There is no way of knowing if the supposed QA tester is what the person claims to be, or if any of the leaked details are accurate. All we know is that it's been a long time since the last Grand Theft Auto gaming (though Grand Theft Auto Online has been receiving continued updates and support).
What is interesting about the situation, though, is the anonymous source first posted the leak on Reddit, and it was removed by the moderators. It's not clear if perhaps Rockstar Games pressured the mods to take down the content. All that said, let's jump into it.
The folks at Dexerto managed to preserve the post. According to the original poster, the map in GTA VI is "huge" and covers to major cities, those being Carcer City and Vice City. Carcer City is based on Boston, and Vice City is based on Miami.
According to the leaker, GTA V is a "schoolyard playground" compared to the massive map in GTA VI. The leakers says Rockstar Games improved the weather effects and polished things up, borrowing from its experience on Red Dead Redemption 2.
"The map is huge, like stupendously huge, hence the game's emphasis on air travel. It makes GTA 5 look like a schoolyard playground. There is an array of atmospheric effects that bring out the life in everything. Light pollution, hurricane winds, morning fog, etc. I've never seen an open world game this realistic before," the leaker wrote.
Grand Theft Auto V Plane and Traine
Assuming all that is accurate, it would be a good opportunity to inject real-time ray tracing into the mix, though there is no mention of that. Instead, the focus is on the size of the map. The leaker says it's so big that it's "a little awkward traveling from Boston to Miami," in part because there are no other major cities in between them, in the game. Expect a lot of air travel, if that's the case.
The leaker also says GTA VI will again put players in control of multiple characters, just like in GTA V. One of the protagonists is said to be "an undercover cop or something," and other might possibly be a sibling. In addition, the leaker says Rockstar Games "complete revamped" the mission design.
"You can permanently abandon some missions or take different routes that sprout different consequences," the leaker says.
For more supposed details, you can check out this screen capture on Imgur, uploaded by another Reddit user (Colonize-Mars).

2023.03.29 21:43 autotldr FIFA strips Indonesia of U-20 World Cup hosting rights
This is the best tl;dr I could make,
original reduced by 69%. (I'm a bot)
Indonesia has been stripped of the right to host the Under-20 football World Cup, FIFA has said in a statement after protests against Israel's participation led to the cancellation of the tournament's main draw.
"FIFA has decided, due to the current circumstances, to remove Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023," a FIFA statement said.
The PSSI said losing hosting rights would harm Indonesian football teams' chances of taking part in other FIFA tournaments, while the economic losses would amount to "Trillions of rupiah".
The Indonesian football federation could be further disciplined by FIFA. A suspension could remove Indonesia from Asian qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, which starts in October.
FIFA and public authorities in Indonesia agreed to FIFA's hosting requirements in 2019 before being selected to stage the 2021 edition of the Under-20 World Cup.
"Members of the FIFA team will continue to be present in Indonesia in the coming months and will provide the required assistance to the PSSI, under the leadership of President Thohir," FIFA said in the statement.

2023.03.29 21:38 evilbert420 Initial Impressions of the DDJ-FLX10

2023.03.29 21:37 Mofalcon Been asked "Are you Dyslexic" by multiple people
So Im 24 and in medical school and I've been asked if Im dyslexic by multiple people in the past couple years. The most recent one was yesterday during my German Tutoring Session. I started learning German like 6 months ago solo but I recently started with a tutur a month ago. We were correcting some of my writing text and I had so many typos and wrongly spelled words that even auto-correct was confused. I tend to make alot of typos and my spelling has always been horrible even in English and my mother language. Thats when my tutor asked me jokingly if I'm dyslexic which really shocked me because this was not the furst time I was asked this question.
Another incident was prob 3 years ago when I was sending an email to one of our professors over a research project that I was a part of. My friend asked on the group if I was dyslexic since the email made zero sense since the word order was jumbled around. I was then asked if I was drunk which I wasn't.
I've always had problem with spelling and alot of the time if I make a typo, I never correct the word I just delete it and type it again using muscle memory. I also have really bad word articulation. My mom took me to a speech therapist when I was kid and she said I don't have any speech impairment and that I just talk really fast. I don't like readin out loud bc I always mispronounce words even tho I know how they sound like in my head. I have no problem reading and understanding text. I am really struggling with learning German atm.
I'm not here looking for a diagnosis or anything. Just kinda venting and writing my thoughts out. Doesn't really matter if I'm dyslexic or not. I've made this far as a functioning person but these comments always feel weird.

2023.03.29 21:28 MagusUnion A small thesis on Buildcrafting
Hello Guardians,
Since the release of Mod 3.0, we again find ourselves with a new evolution of the Armor system once again. With the banishment of the elemental affinities that strangled the options of mods on armor pieces, as well as the disillusion of Match Game as a game modifier, the Mod system has never been more accessible.
But before we can get into build-crafting in general, we have to acknowledge the changes to subclasses, and Bungie's liberal and dedicated application of Champions within the higher tiers of PvE content. With Lightfall, the new properties we placed onto how subclasses can now affect Champions with their
status effects elemental verbs.
- Solar – Barrier (Radiant), Unstoppable (Ignite)
- Arc – Overload (Jolt), Unstoppable (Blind)
- Void – Barrier (Volatile), Overload (Suppression)
- Stasis – Overload (Slow), Unstoppable (Shatter)
- Strand – Barrier (Unravel), Unstoppable (Suspend)
Also included is the fact that some weapon pools have perks that enable this verbiage to be inherent with the damage said weapon deals. Some examples of this include:
- Voltshot - grants jolt after weapon kills + reload
- Incandescent - grants scorch after weapon kills
- Destabilized Rounds - grants volatile after weapon kills
- Chill Clip - grants slow/freeze on weapons
(Note: there may be more examples of this in game, and it's also important to include Exotic perks as well, since their verbage has been updated in Lightfall to reflect the new system) From this, we can conclude that weapons that are able to preform these elemental effects on targets can do so
agnostic from the subclasses or season artifacts themselves. This is highly important from a build-crafting perspective, as now a single weapon perk can supplement a build and facilitate deviations to a loadout outside of the set seasonal options put forth by Bungie.
Now, as someone that plays exclusively solo in this game, self sufficiency is a huge necessity to survive in the hardest content. As such, for build-crafting it's important to consider what aspects of your build that you need to tailor around due to which subclass fits your overall play style. To start, let's go with the most straight forward example.
Monochromatic Builds:
These builds focus on a single element for both weapon damage and guardian subclass. Certain elemental effects (and seasonal mods) will only tie to a specific damage profile for a weapon type. As such, triggering these effects relies on the nature of the subclass itself (such as using grenades or melee on enemies, or incorporating finishers in combat).
An example of this would be: a Nightstalker using Leviathan's Breath, a Void Bow, a Kinetic Special Weapon, and a mod loadout that generates Orbs from Void weapon kills and subclass abilities.
The only catch is with a singular damage profile (excluding kinetic weapons), it has limited effectiveness against enemy shields. Which can be a problem in endgame PvE content. This also means that (outside of running a Stasis/Strand Weapon) your elemental verb usage is only congruent with the subclass your character is running.
In this sense, some bleed over into another element damage type can and does often occur. Since Stasis/Strand shares the same weapon slot as Kinetic weapons, builds can deviate into a dichromatic state. The question then becomes 'how do you know if a build is mono or dichromatic, then?' The answer is based on how much of their armor mod selection will be dedicated to the extra element in their weapon line-up, if at all.
Dichromatic Builds:
In this case, these builds focus on two elemental (hence the name) damage types with a selected subclass that matches one of the chosen damage types. The purpose for this is two-fold: most enemy factions come with two different forms of elemental shielding (Cabal have SolaVoid shields, Hive field Arc/Solar shields, etc.), and in some cases the other elemental damage type is meant to fill in the deficit of the selected subclass based on elemental verb effects.
Let's take Behemoth as an example. For a Dichromatic build, we would add a Riptide with Chill Clip, a Solar Auto Rifle with Incandescent, and The Lament Exotic Sword in the Heavy Slot. We'd also add The Path of Burning Steps Exotic Legs as part of our Armor Set, and slot in two Solar surge boosting mods.
The Armor Exotic is subclass agnostic, and only affects the Solar damage output. As such, this Titan can use both Stasis and Solar Siphon mods to generate orbs on kills. But we also have anti-Barrier capabilities thanks to our choice in weapon Exotic. The rest of the mods can be dedicated to ability regeneration, damage resistance, or ammo capacity/generation based on the player's preferences.
Again, the purpose of this example is to showcase how to build synergy between two elemental types. Solar weapons are boosted by the Exotic Armor, while the subclass is boosted by the other armor mods and Stasis Weapon within said loadout.
Prismatic Builds:
Perhaps the hardest build type to master in the game is a build that harness three or more elemental damage types and maintain a sense of synergy with them together. Thankfully, despite how intimidating such a task may be, one key feature that enables Prismatic Builds is the change to unlimited ammo for primary weapons. As such, a Prismatic Build will equip a Siphon mod that ties directly to the Primary weapon in said loadout.
For our example of this, we can look at a Stormcaller using Chromatic Fire, Arbalest, A Void Scout Rifle with Dragonfly, and Roar of the Bear Rocket Launcher.
Since this setup grants four damage types (Kinetic, Arc, Solar, Void), we can pull from all the Light based Siphons for this build for orb generation. We also have the option to apply all three anti-Champion options while dealing considerable AoE damage. As such, any other mod selections is up to the player's play style, where they can focus on particular abilities or benefits for their build.
Conclusion
Since the new Mod system and changes to subclasses focuses solely on elements as a whole, there are many synergies to be found for the players to use and master in PvE content. While the surface level of build crafting does seem more limited now, the underlying interactions that players can take advantage of has become interwoven at many levels of how the player faces challenges in the game. To that end, I'd hope to see more ways that the community can harness mixing and combining various elements together for builds, and perhaps finding new ways to play the game that haven't previously been done before.

2023.03.29 21:26 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Could Gain This Next-Gen Intelligent NPC Technology From Rockstar

2023.03.29 21:20 Ragnarotico Met a Conspiracy Nut At The Park
Decided to go out and enjoy the relatively nice weather today. Went to the park and saw a man walking his little shitshu and I approached him and played with his dog. He looked like a normal guy walking a dog. He was probably in his 40's/50's, in sweatpants and a pullover and looked friendly. We started talking and at first the conversation is basic stuff, I told him I was not working at the moment and that somehow devolved into a conversation about how "nobody wants to work and it's going to collapse soon".
The conversation then somehow goes into COVID and the vaccines are to blame (?). He said that basically it was all about compliance and control. Over the next hour and a halfish he proceeded to explain the various things he understood that were ultimately all part of this larger narrative of a cabal of Bankers (henceforth will be referred to as simply the "Bankers) in London controlling key moments in world history.
- He said the moon landing was faked. His reasoning was that it's impossible to get a signal from the moon back to earth. He didn't indicate why or what the motivation was to fake the moon landing, but he genuinely thought it wasn't real and none of it ever happened.
- On the topic of the moon he didn't seem to understand/believe in moon phases. He asked me in earnest "how come we can only see part of the moon right now?" He also referred to the earth and the moon as "structures" and when I asked him why he kept using that word, he says "that's just a word I like to use". I was hoping he had an even crazier flat earth or like Transformers planet theory under his belt.
- Next in chronology we have the JFK assassination. He believes JFK was killed by the Bankers because he wanted to "move back to the gold standard." He also believed that JFK was killed by shooters waiting in the sewer grates along the route, shooting and killing him from below. He said LBJ due to his previous role as Senator of Texas would have been able to make this happen. I guess by the logical conclusion of what he said, LBJ and the Bankers (in London) were in cahoots.
- Speaking of the "gold standard", he believes Gaddafi and Chavez were also disposed of by the Bankers because they had demanded gold for their country's oil.
- Now moving on to 9/11, he obviously believes that was an inside job/partly faked. He claims that no building before 9/11 had ever collapsed on itself aka a progressive collapse. A simple search on Wikipedia indicates that is of course false. He believes that mini nuclear explosions in the columns brought it down. I told him that if mini-nuclear explosions did go off then pretty much everyone in the tri-state area would have cancer. He said "well it doesn't really work like that. not everyone would get cancer." He also indicated that the nuclear material would fade quickly. I challenged him on this fact because he worked as a medical professional performing sonograms and he knows for a fact nuclear material does not dissipated quickly. He quickly changed the subject.
- He also believes WTC7 going down was an inside job since it collapsed hours after the Twin Towers did. He indicated that the powers in Washington D.C. had sensitive documents there and needed to take it down. I should have asked him why they didn't just blow up that building directly, but instead targeted the Twin Towers.
- He also believes the Pentagon was hit by long range missiles instead of a plane. I asked him who fired the missile and he couldn't answer.
- He believed that we have the technology to control the weather. He cited HAARP which from what I can tell is a research project focused on the ionosphere. This is how he explains the "weird weather" we've been seeing over the past several decades. He cited the snow in LA recently, Texas snow storms and how NYC didn't get much snow this year. I didn't get a chance to ask him about climate change and I should have. He also believed in chemtrails pointing to passing planes and telling me that if I waited here long enough I would see them form a pattern and eventually into clouds, etc.
- He also believed that the powers that be/Bankers (?) caused the recent earthquake in Turkey in retaliation for Erdogan voting against Finland joining Nato. I asked him that if the powers that be had the power to create natural disasters, why didn't they just do it to Russia to end the war. He claims they wouldn't do that because it would spark retaliation from the BRICS (Brazil, Russian, India and China namely).
- Speaking of the Russian/Ukraine war he believes that the narrative is a lie and that Russia was not the aggressor. I asked him to elaborate on that and he started going off about how Putin took the assets of Oligarchs when he came to power and those Oligarchs ended up in Ukraine. Those Oligarchs now stripped of their wealth still somehow had connections/resources to instigate... something which ultimately caused the Ukrainian war? He didn't really explain this one very well.
- He also mentioned Bill Gates at some point, and he seemed to indicate that he owns all the farmland in America. According to what I found, Gates is indeed the single largest private owner of farmland in America but it's roughly 300K acres out of an estimated 911 M acres ( 0.00032%). He claims that within the next two years we will see a serious/major food supply disruption and that Gates will be to blame. He didn't elaborate on why Gates would want to instigate a food shortage.
- Other personal things: he clearly doesn't believe in the COVID vaccines. He told me neither him nor his wife got them and both ended up losing their jobs as a result. He told me that the teenage friend of his son just recently had a heart attack (or some sort of heart event) and he implied that the vaccine was to blame.
- He cited the recent collapse of SVB bank as another "flare" of an oncoming major event.
- Overall he was very assuredly convinced that all of these events (and others, if he had enough time to explain it) were part of this big picture grand narrative of a cabal of elite Bankers controlling the world towards some nefarious end. He couldn't quite explain what the end goal was except he fervently believed the collapse of civilization was at an end. Funny enough he described himself as an optimist.
TLDR: Was out on a walk at the park. Decided to be friendly and talk to a guy at the park and he ended up going off on conspiracy theories for an hour and half.

2023.03.29 21:04 StepwiseUndrape574 A few questions before buying a mod menu

2023.03.29 21:02 olesia_spitsyna A Brief Guide to Software Testing
| https://preview.redd.it/5dhimyijvoqa1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=e32b51462719b885bc8af484b17f78832bff7e84 According to job search portals like indoor.com, QA engineering is one of the top five most popular jobs in IT in 2020. The IT field is growing faster than ever, and IT companies are creating new quality assurance teams every single day to ensure that only the most sophisticated, and high quality products enter the market. Plus, here’s another striking figure – when working on a software project, about 50% of the total time spent on the project, and more than 50% of the total cost of the project, is actually spent on testing. That’s quite a big budget. So, as you can see there’s a lot of emphasis on testing for companies! Testing is the biggest and best quality control technique out there. Anybody can put out software, but without the guidance and testing that comes from a QA tester, products are likely to be bug-ridden and hard to use. This would be damaging for most businesses, so that’s why they’re investing time and money in quality assurance teams. Let’s recap quickly on quality assurance testing… Quality assurance testing is when you make sure a piece of software meets the requirements that has been set out for it, and that it works as it should for the end-user. There are two approaches to testing, manual and automated testing, which we will discuss in more detail later on. Testing is taught at some universities, and because QA engineering is still a pretty young industry, many people want to enter it. Testing is becoming increasingly popular, and there are plenty of people looking for online courses, or other learning opportunities where they can learn testing quickly, instead of going to university for a few years. The quickest way to learn testing, and to make a fresh start in this profession, is to either complete an online course or to self-educate yourself. Both ways are acceptable, but new testers should make sure that they get a lot of practical experience into their learning, as this is what is going to make the biggest difference for them when they get a real testing job. To get acquainted with the basics of software testing tools, keep reading our guide. Ways of testing You now know a little more detail about testing, it is now important for you to discover how testing can be done. There are two approaches to testing, manual and automated testing. Both approaches are part of the quality control process, and are there to test software, but both operate differently. These two approaches have their benefits and weaknesses, join as we find out more about them. Manual testing is when a human tester executes tests. This is the biggest difference between manual and automated testing. Generally, a manual tester is there to pretend to be the end-user and to check the software for defects. A manual tester usually follows a test plan, so they know what to look out for. This approach works very well on small-scale projects, but it does not work as well for large-scale projects. This work is very intuitive, but it does rely heavily on the tester being thorough and complete with their testing. The main weakness of this approach is that there is room for human error. Automated testing typically reduces the cost of manual testing, because a human isn’t running the testing. During automated testing, a computer is running the tests, and these have been planned out by a tester. Tests in this approach can be completed much faster, thus saving a lot of money, and it can pick a lot of errors that might have been missed by a human. However, automated testing is not a universal solution. Generally, it is more preferable to use manual testing when scripts are not included in regression or continuous integration tests. Auto testing also won’t work when errors occur outside of their written code. The way a product is tested depends on the end goal, and the level of testing required for a project. Every project will be different and each test plan and approach should be designed with this in mind. What are the other types of tests that are found in QA engineering? A good software testing tutorial will not only teach you about load and performance, but it will also teach you about various types of tests and test cases. When it comes to the classification of testing types, another approach is possible. You may get ‘static’ and ‘dynamic’ testing methods, and various techniques can be used within them. ‘Static’ testing assumes that the program code will not be executed, and it will include checking things like the code and requirements of the software. Static is used at an early stage in the software life cycle and it is an important part of the verification process. In some cases, this type of testing doesn’t even require a computer, for instance, when checking requirements. Plus, static testing methods can be used in either manual or automated testing. ‘Dynamic’ testing is a method aimed at verifying the functionality of a program during code execution. This type of testing involves the actual operation of the program and determining if it functions. Dynamic testing shows whether or not the expectations of the software are actually being met or not. The dynamic type of testing actually tests software directly and in real-time. Methods of testing You’ve now got a better idea about testing, the approaches used, and what other types of tests could be used during the quality assurance process. It is now time to look at what methods of testing are used in the testing process. There are two main methods of testing – ‘White Box’ and ‘Black Box’. White Box testing is when certain parts of the system are tested to see if they work as they should. White Box testing is not testing the functionality of the application. But, White Box testing does ensure that the internal structure works and is stable. In White Box testing, a QA has access to the source code of the application and can examine it to see how the initial values are converted into final values. The tester can then write the appropriate input codes to check that the system outputs the right output. Knowing the features of the tested program is a must for White Box testing. Black Box testing is when a QA engineer checks the functionality of an application. The QA tester does not look inside to see how the initial values are converted into final values. Black Box testing is based solely on the external interfaces of the system. The engineer does not need any knowledge about the internal structure or components in the whole system. Also, during Black Box testing, the tester usually checks the specifications/requirements, or other documents, that describe system requirements so that they can see if the product is doing what it should be doing. The most significant difference between White Box testing and Black Box testing is the information that is provided to the QA tester. Now that you know more about testing methods, let’s take a look at the various testing levels that impact testing. Levels of testing There are four distinguished levels of testing, these include Unit Testing, Integration Testing, System Testing, and Acceptance Testing. Unit testing is typically completed early on in the development phase. This type of testing allows testers to check the correctness of the individual modules of the program’s source code. Unit testing involves writing tests for every non-trivial function or method, and this enables a QA tester to quickly check whether the next change in the code has led to regression. Moreover, it facilitates the detection and elimination of such errors. Unit testing is usually done by the programmers themselves, as a kind of ‘self-check’. Defects found this way are then corrected immediately. Integration testing is designed to test the link between the various components, as well as the interactions within different parts of the system. There are two levels within Integration testing: Component Integration Testing and System Integration Testing. Bottom-Up Integration deals with all low-level modules, procedures, and/or functions that are put together and then tested. This approach is considered useful if all, or almost all of the modules in the developed level are ready. Top-Down Integration, on the other hand, is about testing all high-level modules. System testing is performed on a complete and integrated system. Its main aim is to verify if the system meets the requirements that have been set out. It refers to Black Box testing methods, and thus it does not require knowledge of the internal structure. System testing is divided into Alpha testing and Beta testing. Acceptance Testing is a formal testing process that determines whether the project gets a ‘pass of approval’ from the customer or another authorized person. Acceptance testing is usually carried out when the product is about to be finished, as its purpose is to determine the readiness of the product. This is achieved by the product passing test scenarios, and test cases, that are based on the specifications and requirements that were originally set out. Conclusion So, now you’ve got a lot of information about software testing! Yes, it is a lot of information to take in, but if we have piqued your interest and you fancy learning more about testing then visit our website right now. 2023.03.29 21:00 Barangat Idea - Gym filming area
My coach currently flirts with the idea of opening his own place and talked after training with a bunch of us about what makes a gym a good gym. As usual for me, my best idea came (I think) came two hours after the discussion, so I thought I would share it on here and see what you think about it.
My idea is basically to mark/color down a small part of the mat (maybe 3mx3m) as a „photo booth“. There are one or two installed cams (web cams/gopro…) aimed onto the marked matspace that can be activated with a remote/switch. Video equipment has become quite cheap if you do not need good sound quality, so the investment shouldn’t be that big.
Matspace is usable by everyone, but when someone wants footage of a roll or drill for review, or you have a cool guest for a seminar you can just use that space and film it. Maybe hold a small whiteboard into the cam at the beginning with a number or something to identify the various clips. Could even double down for advertising vids for social media/website for the place or as a video diary for the students where you film the move of the day or something.
Does that sound appealing to you as potential customers or even gym owners or would you rather say its a useless gimmick? Or maybe to much of a nuisance for the one who needs to distribute the videos?

2023.03.29 20:51 StepwiseUndrape574 GTA 6 Report Details Rockstar’s First Bonnie And Clyde-Like Female Protagonist
Grand Theft Auto V is one of the most profitable entertainment franchises in the history of games. It came along as a return to form after what many fans would argue was a misstep with the more gritty and realistic GTA 4. Originally released back in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3—yes, it spans three console generations—developer Rockstar has supported the game's online mode with continual updates adding new content, new areas, and even all-new mechanics.
GTA V was such a runaway success—and GTA The Trilogy: Definitive Edition was such a dumpster fire—that Rockstar gave up working on a Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC, and has now reportedly abandoned plans to remaster more of its beloved older titles to instead focus on both further GTA Online content as well as the development of GTA 6.
gtaonline fukaru
Naturally, expectations for GTA 6 are incredibly high, and given the advanced age of GTA V, fans are chomping at the bit for any bit of news. That's why there's so much buzz around a report at Bloomberg that focuses on Rockstar's new corporate culture. Company co-founder Dan Houser left Rockstar in 2020, and ever since then the development house has been trying to reshape a corporate culture that the report refers to as being "like a frat house".
Given the nature and tone of the humor in the Grand Theft Auto series, it's really not surprising to hear that the atmosphere inside Rockstar was juvenile and chauvinistic. The report remarks that the workplace culture at Rockstar was "full of drinking, brawling, and excursions to strip clubs." That may sound like a good time to some, but it's admittedly not very professional.
gta1 katie Katie from the OG Grand Theft Auto (1997) on PC (left) and Game Boy Color (right).
As part of the report, author Jason Schreier casually reveals that GTA 6 will have at least two playable protagonists, and that one of them will be a Latina woman. This technically isn't the first playable woman nor even the first playable Hispanic woman in the GTA series; the very first GTA game featured a Latina named "Katie" as one of its eight playable characters.
Still, very few of the series' modern fans even remember the old DOS-based Grand Theft Auto, so we can forgive everyone for forgetting about poor Katie. Regardless, the new girl will apparently be part of a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like crime duo, calling to mind the partnership between Claude and Catalina in the beginning of Grand Theft Auto III. Hopefully the partnership between the new player characters in GTA 6 doesn't end the same way that one did.

2023.03.29 20:47 StepwiseUndrape574 Latest GTA 6 Rumors Allege Vice City Return But Its Release Date Is Another Question
It seems like we have been hearing rumors about Grand Theft Auto 6 since the beginning of time, though in reality, it has only been almost that long. If you were hoping for some clarity with a release finally being around the bend, well, brace yourself—we could be in for several more years of rumors, not just weeks or even months.
Naturally, the folks at Rockstar Games are not offering up any juicy tidbits about the inevitable release. So everything we know, or think we know, has come by way of leaks and rumors. To that end, multiple leakers are reporting that GTA 6 might not come out until 2024 or even sometime 2025. As things stand right now, YouTuber Tom Henderson says the next version of GTA is very early in development.
Henderson notes that, historically, he has not been associated with GTA leaks (he's been more plugged into the Battlefield scene), but the information he shared in a YouTube video is based on what he has heard from multiple sources. He is not the only one that is hearing GTA 6 is still several years away from being released, either.
GTA 6 Tweet
Given the success of GTA Online, it seems Rockstar Games might not be in a rush to push out another major release. At the same time, it's said the developer is focusing "very heavily on employee well being," which in part means avoiding the crunch that precedes a game's release. However, there is at least one other factor at play as well.
It's said GTA 6 will launch on PC and the latest generation game consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S). By taking its time in releasing GTA 6, Rockstar Games will have a much wider audience of compatible console owners to drum up sales. And while not mentioned, the same could be true in the PC space, as hopefully discrete GPUs will be plentiful again by the the time GTA 6 arrives.
As for the setting, Henderson says GTA 6 will in fact mark a return to Vice City. Rockstar Games may opt to add more locations to the map over time (post launch), but it looks like a modern take on Vice City is headed to the GTA universe.
Given how much we had playing Grand Theft Auto V when it came to PC several years ago (and still holds up today), we're excited to see what GTA 6 brings to the table, even if it means waiting another 3-4 years.

2023.03.29 20:45 A_devout_monarchist The Death of Littlefinger
Harrenhall is cursed, they said, tales of old women of ghosts and flames. Harren the Black created this building and used blood and bones of slaves in the mortar. His family died here, the Harroways died, the Strongs died, the Whents died, but Petyr Baelish beat that curse.
The family of a sellsword, a man who gained a little rocky castle in the eastern tip of Westeros in the most remote part of the most mountainous Kingdom. How could anyone say Harrenhall was cursed when Littlefinger had gained everything? From a brothel owner to the Lord of the Riverlands, ruling Harrenhall, Riverrun and the Twins, the greatest castles of the Trident.
He had been a gambler, and he won the bet. When he gave that loan for the Lannisters to win their war, everything began to unfold. From the securing the Tyrell alliance, he gained Harrenhall. From the fight against the Tullys he gained the Riverlands, returning to his previous foster home as a Conqueror and imprisoning Edmure Tully, stripping him of all his lands and ending a lineage of 3 centuries. From the loan he gained the hand of Myrcella, the Princess of golden hair. From an unfortunate accident, Prince Tommen died. From an unknown assassin, King Joffrey died. And from a palace coup, the regent usurped the Tyrells and Myrcella became the Queen, with children bearing the name Baelysh. And from another unfortunate accident after 30 years of marriage, his son Petyr became King.
But Littlefinger could not stay for longer to guide his son as his hand. It was as if when his name became the Throne, his strength began fading at the age of 66. Now he was at Harrenhall, the mighty fortress he ambitiously began rebuilding, with his son Petyr by his side. His other son, Eddard, became the Lord of the Trident in his stead, his eldest daughter Sarya was away in court, and poor Catelyn was a sickly child with greyscale fighting for her life every day.
His son, King Petyr I of House Baelish, was like a mirror of himself. Other than his mother's golden hair, all features came from him. The intelligence and cleverness also came from him. And at this moment the son kneeled besides the father on the bed.
"You think I didn't know?"
He spoke with poison in his voice to his dying father, now at last seizing his last chance to make Littlefinger's facade of a charming and friendly Lord fall down. There were no more masks, father raised son far too well.
"She died with a snake bite on her ankle, who else could have snuck a snake in the Red Keep?"
Littlefinger looked to the side, seeing his son's face filled with hatred. The boy loved his mother like any son would, the last grand scheme of Lord Baelish was unraveling, there was one who was able to see through it, and his eyes filled with raging tears and closed fists were only contained by one question.
"Why?"
Myrcella was beautiful, she was royal in blood even if Littlefinger knew the obvious truth, but the truth died with Stannis and House Baratheon long ago. The Lannisters held the throne, and now the Baelish had claimed it by all rights. Yet, Littlefinger never loved anyone, except for one woman who he could never have. He had to see his son take the throne because that would mean his final triumph, the payoff of 50 years of schemes and planning. Myrcella was younger and healthier than he was, he could not let himself be outlived by that broodmare, he had to see through the end and that is why he sped it up, to see Petyr Baelish rule the Seven Kingdoms.
"I only ever loved one woman, and she was not your mother."
Catelyn Tully, the beautiful redhead he had been infatuated from his youth, the woman who motivated him out of pure desire for Vengeance. He destroyed the Starks, the Tullys and Baratheons, with House Tully a shadow of what it once was. Catelyn could not live to see it, the dead from the North claimed her in Winterfell during the War for Dawn. He named one of his sons Eddard, perhaps out of some twisted desire to see the man who took Catelyn from him being an obedient lackey to his schemes a second time. But the curse of Harrenhall was real to him, the poor girl he named Catelyn was sick, the greyscale slowly growing every year. She would likely die after a miserable life, one he was not going to see.
The King took his father's pillow as his face hardened, Littlefinger knew what would happen now, but that did not matter. The crown rested on the head of Petyr Baelish, Petyr Baelish, the man who started the War of the Five Kings, the man who destroyed the millennial House Stark over a lost duel for a lady. The Man who destroyed the centenarian houses Baratheon and Tully for standing in his way. The man who killed Kings and Queens, who took the greatest prize in Westeros and ruled it from the shadows for 30 years by controlling a woman who loved him but he never loved back. And now, even as the pillow took away his weak breath, he won, because Petyr Baelish lived through his son, the King of the Seven Kingdoms.
It was the 20th day of the Fourth moon, in the year 335 after the Conquest, it was told he peacefully passed away during his sleep. But the small child from the fingers had won, and his children would continue the legacy of charm and treachery that he created.
