2023.03.26 00:13 wingman626 [REQ] ($1,200) (#Port Saint Lucie, FL, USA) (Repay half 04/13 and 04/27 ) (paypal, cash app, zelle)

Hello
I guess this is the second time I'll be asking for a large borrow. I hate doing this unless i really have to but today is just one of those days i guess.
Washing machine just died on me and the appliance repair shop nearby gave me the no-go on repair as it will be too expensive and there will be no guarantee if it will happen again. and after fact checking with the retailer i bought it from, the warranty I purchase on it expired 6 months ago, which means the dryer i bought together with the washer is also out of warranty even though it that still works.
Just bought a new washer and dryer combo with what i have left but i had to the remaining balance "1200$" on a credit card so I'll be skimming by until my next check rolls around. I will be selling the dryer locally to recoup some of the money at least on my own time.
I work a second job now so i have extra paystubs to verify my income if need be. But for now the plan is to pay off partially within two pay periods. As this is a larger amount than the last, I'm not sure how much extra/interest the lender would be comfortable with to include with the repayment so as always, i am open to talk about it.
But for now, and as always, i am very thankful for this sub as it has saved my behind multiple times And I'm in no rush to get this money as soon as possible. I'm just trying to be smart about this as I'll be broke for a few days (one job is a weekly pay period and the other is bi-weekly)
Either or, thank you for your consideration and i hope you have a good day

2023.03.26 00:09 i-was-hiding Question about Rental Agreement

Hi, I signed a year-long lease at my place on September last year, and after some small water problems that I have expressed to my landlord (which was only addressed by providing a dehumidifier), I just had a HUGE water leak that covers about 20% of the floor to my room.
I signed an Ontario Residential Tenancy Agreement (Standard Form of Lease), and my landlord just informed me he can only get to this issue when his dad comes to town next month (not clear whether thats in 6 days or 36). This what the lease says
" J. Maintenance and Repairs (Part III, IV, V and XIV of the Act)
The landlord must keep the rental unit and property in good repair and comply with all health, safety and maintenance standards. This includes the maintenance and repair of things that came with the unit, such as appliances, and of common areas, such as parking lots, elevators, and hallways.
The tenant must pay their rent, even if they have problems with the maintenance and repair of their unit or property. If the tenant is having a maintenance or repair problem, the tenant should let the landlord know. If needed, the tenant can apply to the Landlord and Tenant Board.
The tenant is responsible for any damage to the rental property caused by the tenant, the tenant’s guest or another person who lives in the rental unit. This applies to any damage caused on purpose or by not being careful enough. This does not include damage that results from normal use of the rental unit over time (“wear and tear”). The landlord can apply to the Landlord and Tenant Board if the tenant has not repaired such damage.
The tenant is responsible for ordinary cleanliness of the rental unit, except for any cleaning the landlord agreed to do. "
How much time does this provide my landlord to go ahead with this? Should I (or can I?) proceed by suggesting I want to move out soon? This seems like a less than minor to inconvenience to me and I dont want to be mopping my floor every time it rains.

2023.03.25 22:06 Any_Respond_9011 We should strive for "dumber" electronics.

In the last 5-10 years, everything that could be made smart was made smart. Everything that could get some added electronics got them. I think this is bad both for people and for the environment.
First of all, "smart" things are unreliable and almost impossible to repair. A 20 year old washing machine has all of the important functions and it can be cheaply repaired by a person with basic electronics/tinkering skills. If the main board of a 3-4 y.o. one gets fried, you have to pay almost its full price for a qualified repairman+new components. This is not only bad for the customers, but also bad for the environment. We throw away working appliances just because some circuit board having mostly unnecessary functions stopped working and it's cheaper to just get a new one.
Second, if the manufacturer stops supporting your product, good luck using it. You have no compatibilities with newer versions of connected apps, security flaws or, if the device uses a cloud service, it stops working completely. This also generates lots of e-waste and is detrimental for consumers.
We don't need smart fridges, light bulbs, washing machines, thermostats, door locks.

2023.03.25 21:53 kellyn210 Small Appliance Repair Recommendations?

I’m looking for somewhere I can take my KitchenAid stand mixer to have it looked at. I’m afraid there’s an issue with the gears, and I’d rather get ahead of it than wait for it to get worse. Any recommendations of local appliance repair places? Anywhere in NoVa is fine, but Manassas is close to home. Thanks!

2023.03.25 19:00 PazzyShifter Refrigerator door won't stay closed.

The other day my father shoved me into the open refrigerator door during an argument. The door wasn't damaged by it or seemed to open farther than it should have. But now, when I close the door it will not stay fully closed; it opens about 1-2 inches and it's not a seal issue. Should I call an appliance repair person about this? It's a Frigidaire Gallery Series I believe. Not sure how old it is so I'm unsure if the parts are able to be replaced or if I should just fork out my savings for a new fridge.

2023.03.25 05:33 Edwardo-18 Is this a legit reason to be evicted?

A few weeks ago, I closed the drier door and accidentally pushed the plastic front cover and it cracked. I didn’t say anything to my mom or fam. But today, the drier stopped working (it was squealing since we moved in and she was aware) our landlord came and she noticed the crack. Later in the day my family got a text saying we will be evicted in 14 days unless we fix the drier door and pay for the repair of the drier. We called some parts stores and the door part has been discontinued. So we’re not sure what else to do, can she legit kick us out for this? My mom said the lease agreement says we are responsible for “damaged appliances”. The repair was due to wear and tear (belt snapped) but we did damage the plastic cover. The glass isn’t broken but the front plastic thing is cracked
Edit: I forgot to mention we offered to pay for the cost but she wants it fixed but we can’t get the part

2023.03.25 04:28 Quinntissential Musings on being “a lot.”

I’m not sure who said it first, but I have mixed feelings when I hear “If you think I’m a lot, then go find less.”
I understand the sentiment, but I struggle to apply it to myself. I am a lot. But I feel like any sane, normal person couldn’t possibly ever want this much. Less would be massively preferable. I’m endlessly grateful for the people in my life that are willing to endure how much I am.
I just find myself realizing that I have no understanding for how normal people feel on a day to day basis. I have no idea what the normal level of anything is.
I am exhausted by myself. I don’t know how much of this is ADHD, but maybe someone will understand.
I am in a constant state of either overachieving (sometimes to a level of absurdity and often to a level that’s unnecessary), or dangerously underachieving. I either can’t sleep and am up all night, or I’m in bed early and can’t wake up in the morning.
My insecurities, self doubt and perpetual personal embarrassment leads me to overshare, over-apologize and overcompensate to the point that it’s off-putting and makes me look weak and incapable when I am neither of those things.
I feel emotions so strongly and am willing to tackle mine, but I can barely watch movies or tv shows anymore. I can’t allow myself to be this emotionally affected by something that isn’t real. It wasn’t always like this, but it seems to get worse and worse.
I used to write music… I’ve written hundreds of songs. I can barely listen to music anymore. It’s too much. It affects me far too much. I can’t perform anymore because I can’t sing without crying. I can’t hear myself, I can’t focus, I can’t see. Everything on stage is too loud, too bright, too busy - too much. I could have been someone if I had been able to handle it, but I never really could and faking it got too hard.
I watched a show today for the first time in a while. I got obsessed with the characters, watching their love story felt physically painful, I binged the entire 10 episodes and then spent several hours reading articles, reviews, anything I could find just to stay in the story - just to try and find more details. It doesn’t feel normal. It occurs to me that most people watch something, enjoy it or not and then go about their day. I wonder what that’s like.
I can’t understand what people are saying to me if there’s background noise. It’s like they’re speaking another language sometimes. But I can do a million things at once if it’s quiet.
I don’t hate myself. I have a lot of good qualities. I’m a good parent and enjoy my children more than most people seem to. I’m just so tired of dealing with me all the time. I’m exhausted by the constant alarms, the constant reminders, Alexa going off 30 times a day telling me to clock in, clock out, take my medication, eat lunch, be here at 5, be here at 7, start the crockpot, order groceries. I hate the noise, I hate that I can’t live without it.
I struggle with alcohol in phases. But it helps - or it does in the moment, anyway. But the next day the anxiety, the absent mindedness, the struggle to focus is a million times worse. I’ve never tried drugs because I know exactly who I would become if I did - another reason I stopped performing.
I’m medicated for ADHD and I know I need to be, I couldn’t function without it. But I wish someone could explain to me what it feels like in a normal brain. I wish someone could teach me to process things in a way that would give me some relief.
I wrote 82 pages of training material for my job last week, entirely from memory. But I can’t remember to clock out for lunch every day. I’ve taught myself how to do everything from repairing household appliances to designing/sewing my own clothes to doing my own taxes. But I can’t seem to make myself understand how to successfully navigate most social situations.
Love has been especially hard. My attachments to people have been unhealthy in every way I could possibly manage. I left one abusive marriage and immediately replaced that with a second one.
When I met my current husband, I felt instantly connected to him. He made me feel safe in a way I had never felt before and he showed me care in a way that I had never experienced, not even with my own family. I had been searching my whole life to feel that way - So I burned my entire life to the ground to be with him. Whatever I had to do, as long as it didn’t hurt my kids, I did it. I didn’t hurt them - but I hurt a lot of other people. And I didn’t care. I accepted the shame, the embarrassment, the rumors and judgements and insults and just… took it. It was worth it.
But being healthy with him is so hard sometimes. I love him and can’t lose him, so I have to try and I’ll keep trying every day. I can’t let my kids down, so I’ll leave the alarms and the reminders on. Even on my days when I’m the bare minimum of myself, I still show my family the love they deserve. I still show up at the talent show. I get up in the middle of the night when I remember the class spirit shirt that needs to be clean in the morning.
But I’m exhausted.
And I often wish I could “go find less.” But I’m stuck with me, so I hope one day I can get used to being a lot.

2023.03.25 03:58 spicymemories19 Landlord put in lease that I must pay for all repairs/maintenance no matter what (Missouri)

Hello, all I am here with a question regarding the legality of a landlord putting in my lease that I have to pay for all repairs and maintenance. This is in Missouri.
The clause is as follows: "Resident shall be responsible for all repairs, maintenance, costs, service charges, painting, and Landlord approved improvements and additions to the property (Residents Maintenance Responsibility). The Resident shall promptly repair at his/her own expense all damages to the property, plumbing or appliances caused by themselves, family members, or guests, pets and children of guests. Resident shall take an active role to insure that the property stays in excellent condition. Resident agrees that he/she has had adequate opportunity to inspect the conditions of the property and Landlord makes no warranties or representations about the condition of the property, the improvements, utilities, electrical, plumbing, roof, appliances, or any latent defect of property, the improvements, utilities, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, appliances, or the neighborhood. Resident agrees that any blockages or breakages in plumbing and drains or any broken glass that is not revealed on the inspection and inventory record at the time of move in are the full responsibility of the Resident regardless of cause. Resident agrees to make a diligent effort to repair any hazardous conditions as quickly as possible. At Landlord's discretion, repairs not made by the Resident within a reasonable time frame may be made by the Landlord and charged to Resident. Additionally, the LANDLORD SHALL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE for any costs associated with fireplace cleaning and maintenance, or the heating and cooling system annual start up/tune up. These costs are to be born exclusively by the Resident. Any damages resulting from Residents failure to maintain the fireplace, heating and cooling systems, and any other aspect of the property shall he repaired at the Residents expense."
There is no way this is legal, right? Does this mean what I think it does? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

2023.03.25 03:13 KrishnaChick What can I say to keep the landlord from raising the rent?

TL;DR: What can a good tenant say to a landlord to keep their rent from getting raised?
I've never rented with a lease until about four years ago, so I'm a little lost as to how to deal with my current situation.
When we signed to renew the last time, the PM told me that after this term was up, they wanted to go only month-to-month, and the rent would be increased $50. At the time, we didn't think we would stay, so no problem. Now, with one month left on the lease and a change in our employment situation, we want to stay. The property manager, unprompted by us, says they want to renew the lease, and raise the rent by $70, because "inflation."
Inflation has hit us as well. The only reason we want to stay is that my husband is in the middle of a work project with a deadline, and moving would be a terrible hassle and time suck. Moreover, we have saved the landlord quite a bit by doing any necessary small repairs on the place at our own expense (recaulking the bathtub, fixing a minor problem on the garage door, minor repair on the washer). They have provided us with the cheapest appliances possible, which had to be replaced: a 20+-year-old washer and a 12-year-old fridge. They left us a filthy carpet (but replaced the upstairs flooring and vanity), walls that need painting, and general uncleanliness, which we remedied ourselves.
We have no pets/kids, and we don't even wear street shoes inside the house. We maintain the landscaping. We're not slobs.
My question is this: what can we say to not get our rent raised at all, while also not provoking the landlord to refuse to renew. I've seen landlords in other subs say that they will not raise rent on good tenants because they're worth more than taking their chances with new tenants. I have had limited contact with the landlord, exclusively negotiating with the property manager, but I'm considering going over the PM's head and making my case with the landlord directly. Bad idea?
Thanks for your time and advice.

2023.03.25 01:46 Patient-Negative GE Washer/Dryer combo

GUD27ESSM1WW This was bought 3-2-22, it had a lid lock error and a tech was called 2-23-23, and diagnosed it and ordered the part.
After numerous contacts over 2 weeks, found through fedex tracking that GE never sent the part to the shipper.
Another part ordered and arrived week 4. The part did not fix the issue. After over 1 month of no washer, and multiple calls, chats, emails & over $100 spent at the laundromat, GE customer care said “too bad, you have to wait”!
I had to come home early from work travel to be home for this 2nd service call and again- NO WORKING WASHER & NO ETA on repair. I will NEVER BUY GE AGAIN!
I have saved all commutations & call logs to submit to the FTC. This is unacceptable; GE needs a class action lawsuit against them and I will reach out to anyone and every channel I can.
I might as well but Maytag- that washer still worked after 20 years when I replaced it for this junk!
Better than wasting $$$ & time at a laundromat after over $2000 in appliance & worthless wars ter. GE does not stand behind or for anything! Serial # AT044309C

2023.03.24 22:00 KrishnaChick Advice for a residential renter

TL;DR: What can a good tenant say to a landlord to keep their rent from getting raised?
Apologies if this is not an appropriate forum to ask, but I didn't know where else to go. Been lurking here for years, from when I was considering becoming a landlord myself, but circumstances now force my husband and me to rent (NY state) for at least the next year. This is an attached 2-story, 2BR townhome. I've never rented with a lease until about four years ago, so I'm a little lost as to how to deal with my current situation.
When we signed to renew the last time, the PM told me that after this term was up, they wanted to go only month-to-month, and the rent would be increased $50. 2023.03.24 20:52 DarthONeill How do I get better at electrical work?

I took basic electricity like we all did but I haven't really used any of it until the last year and I've forgotten a good bit of it. I worked A-Checks and C-checks before this and was basically a parts changeluber so I didn't really get a chance to troubleshoot anything.
I'd also like to get into small appliance repair on the side which requires understanding of electronics, but that's a different conversation.
Is there somewhere I can better my electrical skills without switching companies or having to go back to school? Looking for any suggestions.

2023.03.24 19:24 Tiny_Situation8186 Anyone with experience with Royal Green in WP?

I purchased all of my kitchen appliances, including a refrigerator, from Royal Green in downtown WP in 2019. I also purchased an extended warranty for these major appliances, which is valid for 5 years. As per Royal Green's policy, they will replace any appliance that they cannot repair. Unfortunately, my refrigerator broke down in February 2022 and was "fixed" by Royal Green in January 2023, but it broke down again after less than only two months. The repair took almost a year and the appliance still does not work properly. Given this situation, I don't see the point in having it repaired again. I would like to understand how to proceed with Royal Green's replacement policy. Has anyone else faced a similar issue and can offer some advice? Any help is appreciated.

2023.03.24 17:53 leon27607 Home builder won't take responsibility for an issue they caused. (NC)

So essentially I bought a new home around 2021 and everything at the time seemed fine. One issue was we noticed a gap in between the stove hood+hood vent. During closing, we were told this was fixed and it looked "fixed"(the gap was closed). Even during the 1 year warranty check-up it looked fine. 2 home inspectors didn't even notice any issues because the appliance was working fine. However, recently I noticed the gap came back and when I went to look at it, it got even worse.
I opened up the air filters to look inside and realized one of the screws wasn't even screwed into my wall. There are a total of 4 screws, the bottom 2 are screwed in correctly but the top 2 are not. 1 isn't even screwed in, and the other 1 was poorly screwed into my wall. The poorly screwed one had been loosening over time and essentially that's what happened just now.
I tried contacting customer care but they basically told me since I was past the 1 year warranty they wouldn't cover it at all. They told me there was no prior documentation about issues with the hood vent(when there was). I've forwarded an email showing that it wasn't right the first time and I was told it was "fixed" and it even looked "fixed".
Technically I am still on a 2 year "services" warranty(basically HVAC coverage), and a 10 year "structural" warranty. I told them if my wall rips apart due to the hood falling over because the builder did not install it correctly, doesn't that count as a "structural" issue? Waiting to hear back from them now.
Is there anything I could do or do I really have to contact GE for repairs(they charge ~$111 just to come to my house, with no service/parts included).
